That was a hard fight to score, Kind of agree with Dan the first 9 rounds were very tough to score.

Sylvester's jab worked all fight but clearly didn't win the fight.

Well i'm very proud of Geale, what a great story so far, comn Gealy.

Sylvester took his loss a lot better than the German crowd.

Did you hear the howling? :lol:

What an awesome performance. I cant remember feeling this proud of aussie fighter since Harding. To go over there, cop the crap with the judges being changed late and then to dominate the fight is sensational. I can see how some had the fight close, but 118 - 110 for Sylvester...WTF. I gave SS as many rounds as I could (thinking like a German) and had it 116-112 for Daniel. Huge !!! Well worth the 4am wake up.

Thought Geale sneaked it by a round or two. Well done to him!

I know this sounds silly but having watched the fight this morning i would say the following:

1. I scored it to Geale by a 2 Rds;
2. SS Jab was problem for Geale all night and Geales workrate was a problem for SS;
3. The first 9 rds were very close and could have gone either way;
4. I can see how 1 judge had it 118-110 Geale; and
5. I can see hopw one judge had it 118-110 for SS (this bit i think sounded silly, but if you are a judge that scores power or work rate AND you also feel that close rounds should go to the champ as the challenger shoud TAAKE them from the champ, not the other way around - then you could have ended up with this score)

I had the fight around 116-112. although i gave 2 close rounds to Sylvester thinking he is at home so he would get them.
The Judges did the right thing, Geale deserved the win, his workrate was far superior to Sylvester. He would have easily outlanded Sylvester 3 to 1.
I had to turn off the Commentory as Barry and the other guy were talking absolute nonsence. Sylvester was landing a stiff jab occassionlly, but not enough to win the rounds.

Congrats to Geale. I wasn't sure if he'd ever become a world champ, but he's done it alas. :TU:

Great result for Aussie boxing. Just hope the media realise how good this win really is and jump on board.

Overall it was competitive and highly skilled fight but Geale clearly won and rightfully got the decision. As for the cards, it was the type of fight where there were several close rounds and therefore a relatively wide range of scores was acceptable as long as Geale was the man on top in the end. I don't think any of the cards really reflected how competitive the bout was overall, but scoring round by round I can see how Geale came out by a wide margin on two of them.

Geale wins the IBF Middleweight title by beating the champion. Kelly Pavlik wins some non title fight at light heavyweight and gets ranked above Geale at
middleweight by Boxrec.

How does that work? :witzend:

Morning guys from a strangely sunny England, just wanted to say well done to Daniel Geale, always felt he was talented and knew if he could just get some sort
of fair shake he would win this.

Love his style, seems a nice guy and someone you can all be really proud of.

Delighted for Geale. Not often a "foreign" fighter walks away from Germany with a decision. Now get him over to Ireland to take on Andy Lee. :P

That would be a decent matchup but Lee seems to struggle with guys who put on the pressure and that is something Geale does very well.

congratulations to Gealey and grange old school boxing, he had a great work rate, and kept busy all night, sylvester had a nice stiff left jab but i found he couldnt back it up with that big right hand, maybe he couldnt figure out geale, sylvester seemed to be stuck in one gear imo, also i must say how professional these two fighters were, and sylvester seemed dissapointed but gracious in defeat which i thought was excellent...

Sylvester is a gentleman. That is more than I can say for some of the whiners in the crowd.

Congrats Geale!!!

I reckon his first defense will be in Aus. Maybe against someone like Sam Soliman...

I couldn't watch the fight in the end as I was running in the Mothers Day Classic on Sunday morning :witzend:

Watched the Pacquiao/Mosley fight with Sammy yesterday, he is adamant the he is still fighting Benjamin Simon this year for the IBF #1 spot, the winner becoming mandatory challenger. He did also assure me that he was fighting Manfredo Jr. before Christmas last year though.
