I'm not denying he was a great player. But this thread is for an all time 'premier league XI', it's in the thread title. The PL started in 1992, and he left you for Lazio that year. I just don't think his spells at Middlesbrough and Everton were good enough to put him anywhere near the likes of Scholes, Vieira, Keane etc

Anyone want to add to my team of great players who didn't play their best football in the premier league but did play in it.

Dino Baggio (seemed to always make world xv sides in the mid/late 90's).
Branco (Brazilian World cup winner played for Middlesborough, briefly)
Nicola Berti (one stage football writers were saying its a toss up between him and Roberto Baggio for the best player in the world tag)
Glenn Hoddle (most underated player in English football IMO - criminally under used at International level)
Bryan Robson (injury and team selection prevented Hoddle and Robson from really gelling at international stage)
Thomas Brolin (I know, but at one stage he was a fabolous player)
Attila Lombardo (Bald eagle from Sampdoria).
Roberto DiMatteo (I'm surprised he never gets a mention in the OP original question - was fantastic for chelsea, truly world class).
Andrei Schevchenko (okay shite for Chelsea, but at one stage looked to be the most complete striker in the world, argueably a better version of Shearer).
Michael Ballack (Complete midfielder in his pomp).

He was only about 25 when he moved to Newcastle. He was a massive waste of talent.

Newcastle had Shearer, Ferdinand, Beardsely and Asprillia at the same time.... its not viable to play 4 forwards at the same time, which is why Tino was more of a squad player.

Some of the stuff he did was unbelievable, but he was never an out and out goalscorer who was going to get a goal every 2 games

Perhaps it was the different pace of the two leagues in general, but Asprilla looked so quick at Parma. For my money, for one brief period at Parma he would have made a world 11.

It was his final season at Newcastle when he came more to his own - Ferdinand and Beardsley were gone and it was just really Shearer and Rush who they had available - oh and Tommasson and Guivarch of course. So Aspilla, didn't have the support but did alot of good stuff individually.

Asprilla signed halfway through 95-96 when Newcastle had a good lead over Man Utd in the title race, some thought that Asprillias inclusion upset the balance of the team as Newcastle ended up 2nd.

Shearer signed that summer, here we had the 4some of Shearer, Ferdinand, Tino & Beardsley for 96-97 season
This was Tinos only full season.

In summer 97 Shearer got injured, Ferdinand and Beardsley left.... and in came Tomasson and an ageing Rush.
Tino hit his famous hat trick against Barcelona in Sept '97, but only scored 2 league goals and didn't play again after xmas.

Guivarch was signed in 1998 and never played with Tino
