Yes, that's him. Sharp's father was Paul Sykes who fought for the British heavyweight title back in the late 1970s. Sykes was also an infamous criminal who spent much of his life in jail. There was a documentary made about him some twenty odd years ago called 'Paul Sykes: at Large', or something similar. It focused on Sykes' release from prison and his attempt to integrate back into mainstream society. The documentary is on YouTube if you are interested. I seem to recall Sykes being filmed in the gym doing heavy squats in one scene; it was very similar to the clip of Sharp in the gym last night on 'Strangeways'. I can't help thinking that Sharp was filmed weightlifting as a purposeful link to his father.

bloody hell, Micheal Sharp. I watched that program but cant think of who he is. Was it the kid who killed his wife/girlfriend and still says it was her fault? he was lifting the wieghts in the last episode???

Sykes also wrote a book called 'Sweet Agony', which is now quite sought after. It's only a paper back but sells for over £50 a copy on e-bay or Amazon nowadays. The book is a semi-factual account of his release from jail in his early 30s and traces his chaotic life and path to his title fight with John L Gardner. Unfortunately Sykes was a seriously bad man but his book is worth reading.

Sykes almost got it on with Lenny Mclean, that would of been tastey

Lenny would have been in trouble. He was nowhere near the standard Sykes boxed at.

We'll never know, i'd bet my life on Lenny if it would of been on the cobbles, but in the ring im not sure.
