This is Joe Louis Barrow, II. I appreciate all the comments but I'd like to set the record straight. Martha, the attorney and my mother was my father's third wife. My father was not living in Las Vegas in 63. When my parents first moved to Vegas we lived at Caesars. From there we moved to Arapaho Circle while our home was renovated. When it was finished we moved to Seminole Circle. My parents also had a home in Denver and and multiple homes in Los Angeles where my mother's law office and practiced remained at 9350 Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills even after we moved to Las Vegas. The point I want to stress most is my father was never hungry. He loved working at Caesars Palace. Caesars was good to him and he was good to them. In fact, they are still good to me whenever I visit. My uncle Ash brought my father to Caesars and my father was always grateful that he had made the suggestion. That said, my mother was very successful and could have provided for my father if she had needed provide for him but luckily she didn't need to provide for him because he provided for him self and loved doing it and being with his fans.

or Joe Louis the famous boxer?

Or he might have meant Joe E. Lewis, the comedian, who was almost beaten and slashed to deat by one of Al Capone's mugs once, but that was in another mob town, Chicago.

Re the theory above about why Liston was murdered: there are various theories floating around, but i never heard that one before, that he was whacked for turning Louis on to drugs. One of the, i think, more far fetched theories is that he was supposed to take a dive in his last fight vs Wepner (who i used to have a certain connection with) but didn't. Come to think of it I have a certain conection, long seperated by time, with Al Capone too.

Speaking of Las Vegas, I tried to visit the Las Vegas boxing museum last year. It was still listed in the lobby directory of the whatchamacallit casino, but after hunting all over for it I found out it was now defunct.

Interesting.

Also:

"In 1970, Caesar's Palace, in Las Vegas, hired him as a greeter, a job which involved signing autographs, betting with house money when the action seemed a little slow, and playing golf with special guests. The job suited him, and the casino even provided him housing, as well as $50,000 a year. Joe Louis lived and worked at the Palace until a massive heart attack felled him on April 12, 1981."

Very interesting thread packed with a lot of great information on the beloved "Brown Bomber Joe Louis". Thank you to Joe's son for adding all of the primary factual information on Joe's multiple residences in Las Vegas, Colorado and California.
