I thought Americans were the only boxers that retire and comeback within a few years(if that).
When Europeans call it a career they usually don't come back.

I will happily bet any poster on here that Joe doesn't come back at 168....

Joe went out at the absolute top. Against both rjj and hopkins he showed the same incredible workrate, versatility and desire he always had.

To say the division is too competitive for joe today is garbage. If joe announced he was coming back tommorow and had 2-3 hard gym fights.id wager he would still beat kessler, ward, dirrel, and abraham. The true tests would be froch hopkins and johnson at 168-175
:-? < You are correct, Joe was at his peak when he retired.

However, if his "peak" was scrutinized like some other guys, he wouldn't be as lauded as he is. Joe's most definitive win was against Mikkel Kessler and Andre Ward
made that look like a cake walk. Then his fans will jump to the Hopkins fight, which I
would give to Joe, simply on activity and the mood of the fight. I had it six rounds apiece, which would have been 114-113 Hopkins, but I didn't feel like Hopkins carried the night. However, I did always feel like Joe did not land more than HALF of the punches Compubox gave him credit for. In fact, some guy on youtube with NO LIFE did a brilliant breakdown of the entire fight highlighting Joe's ineptitude. Go watch it.

If Joe does come back, just like Jones Jr. all the fundamental mistakes will catch up to him, and he will get Roy Jones'd.
oh read my posts over the years i always had hopkins beating calzaghe the first time. I didnt think he connected anywhere near what the stats supposedly said and found it a shocking decision from the get go.

I dont think calzaghe and rjj can be compared. Calzaghe always had a plan b and c as he showed in the second half of the hopkins fight after he had been shut out the first 6.. Plus his fundamentals were always very strong in terms of basics and lets faxe it rjj was in serious decline since the first tarver fight.......the weak chin he had his whole career but which was never exposed is truly exposed.....joe has a granite chin and a desire to overcome adversity which i dont think rjj has....cos he never had to for 50 fights!

In his prime the industry hated calzaghe for pulling out of fights so often due to injury but that was symptomatic of how much of a perfectionist joe was he wouldnt enter the ring with his stamina compromised.

Calz@ghe will not come back ever but hypothetically if he announced it tommorow i think he takes ward with ease.

Ward beat kessler but kessler is one of these europeans who is a collossus in his own backyard and not the same in america.

LOL

Howard Stern had Flava Flav on the other day and he talked about how he had a $26k a day coke habit for years. "Cocaine is a helluva drug."
That's horseshit man, nobody could do that much coke a day. Coke is $50 a g in the states, that means he'd 520 grammes a day. 6 in one hour is a lethal dose. You would have a massive heart attack.

Either Flav is one dumb ass fornicator, who doesn't know shit from shinola, he has the heart of a rhinocerous, or someone is talking utter shite.

WOW $50 a G!!! man you guys have it easy, in australia its $300 a G!!! although gun violence is very low :OhYes: :OhYes:
£40 for good shit £20 for shit shit

Whitney Houston spent 6k a week on coke for years. That will wipe away millions quickly, no doubt.

Anyways, agree to disagree that Coke can erase Millions in a blink, I guess.

I'm not airing a bunch of stuff on the internet. But i know a lot more than reading tabloids and you're mixing up being a crack head with snorting coke. And neither can blast away millions in a short period of time. Being a drug addict can lead to other behavior that helps. But Whitney Houston sure as hell never snorted 9 ounces of coke a week. No way in hell, never happened, whatever you read is wrong.
i hear that...

but it depends exactly what was said ie 'i spent 9k a week on coke' he could actually mean he was pissin his money away whilst ON coke...not actually spending his money on coke...

Calzaghe: I hope he doesn't come back.

Cocaine: A friend is the drummer in a very famous band. The lead singer was spending £1,000 a day on coke.

To be fair, Calzaghe beat the best version of Kessler, he was unbeaten, confident and on a great run, he'd been smashing people in his title defences, and Calzaghe won the fight clearly, though it was a tussle.

I had the Hopkins fight a draw, and I thought Calzaghe looked dreadful, but then Hopkins threw very few punches, which made his case hard. Judges don't have instant replay available, and it's often hard to tell from ringside whether a shot has landed or not, especially when they come in bunches. ]

Hopkins probably regrets that night, because he could probably have upped his output just a little, and won it clearly. He made Calzaghe look a little amateurish at times.

Keep dreaming you clown. Johnson would be a tougher test than Kessler, Ward and Dirrell? Not likely.

Other guys have come back after as long a time out. Its not as if he would have to fight his way back to contention.
He would be straight back in for a couple million, and a great excuse if he lost ... who wouldn`t be tempted??

Not sure who he would be better off fighting?
The crude and very basic Froch .. or the tricky and awkward Hopkins?

I would imagine if he is coming back - he would wait and see how easy a night Ward has against Froch first.

Even better idea for the boxer himself is to talk up the re-match with B-Hop or a fight against Froch but say that you need a tune up. Calzaghe could sell out the CIA pretty easily, no high quality undercard would be required as fans would buy tickets and sky (or some other broadcaster) would snap it up. Easy win then retire again due to not having the drive.

Or is that really too cynical?

think at this stage, calzaghe would have his hands full with Ward. Kessler looks to have slipped himself so it would probably be the same result.

Froch I think Calzaghe could probably still beat if he was 80% of what he was when he retired.

Carl is good, but Calzaghe was pretty special, even if he was annoying.

tom was in rehab for a drink problem...not drugs...his drink of choice, in a rather less than rock n roll style, was port.

You gotta watch it. One minute it's port then before you know it you're on a downward spiral and you're bang on the sherry. Not to mention most port drinkers also eat a lot of cheese which can be a killer.

Unless calzaghe gets offered silly money he shouldn't come back. His hands and chin we getting worse by the year and he can look to so many past greats that soiled their legacy with stoppage losses following an ill advised comeback

Yeah, he did seem to be losing his ability to take a shot, even Jones Jr decked him. He recovered quickly agaisnt both him and Hopkins, but he'd also been decked by Bika a few fights back.

Joe had an unbelievable ability to shake off a knockdown though - Byron Mitchell nearly decapitated him with that hook, and Calzaghe just got up at 2!

Poor flav probably had his hangers on and bitches to pay for as well. With the exchange rate, its only £2,000 a day! It can be done on the pipe with a few of you. No way up the nose.

How much you spend depends on how much you pay. I've got mates who are happy to pay £100 per gram, because it's very good quality and it's delivered to the door.

Yep, full weight, and maximum potency, you're not paying less than that.
