i know two boxers who were and i was there when 1 was told his lad wudnt fight unless he agreed to lose,it def happens

Know for defo it happened to a pal of mine when boxing abroad, didn't really know the score til he got there and got it dropped on his toes so to speak. He took the "kings shilling" and the kid was that bad he said he had to hold him up til the required round!! Think it may happen in a 'big fish, small pond' scenario where a kid who cant really fight gets fed these opponents who jump on the floor when required. Cant see it happenin in uk tho.

apart from stinker decisions and inexplicably lacklustre bugner/harrison-type performances that defy belief, the only fight i ever saw that i thought stank to heaven was Tommy Hearns's 1 round ko of James Shuler

no im not i have seen it with my own eyes a fair few times only low level stuff but if a not so good boxer is a big ticket seller and he fights a journeyman who could beat him the journeyman quite often gets paid to show the lad a few things but to drop a points decision. everybody in the game knows it happens and if you dont your talking bow-locks and so are the board if they think it doesnt go on but if they started pulling people in and made the journeyman beat the not so good lads than obviously there would be even less shows then there is already someone said earlier about its the unwritten rule for journeymen to lose well sometimes its the backhander that rules

I've watched that fight a hundred times. It's a genuine top draw knock out. Getting hit on the point of the chin by Tommy Hearns means goodnight.

I think it is easy to for journeymen to defend their bad statistical records by saying they threw fights, got ripped off, would have been champions but for crooked management etc
The fact is yes journeymen get brought in as opponents but the reason they lose is because they are overmatched not because they are getting paid to get beat.
If the fight is close the officials know what side their bread is buttered on anyway

The bit about Shuler dying mysteriously is good too. He crashed his motorbike. It don't get much more mysterious than that in Funso Land...
