EarsJohn - I have to agree with you, Hennessey failed big time, didn't have him on TV all...... I take it having him fighting on BBC, ITV and Sky and appearing on Question of Sport 2 or 3 times, BBC breakfast News, Local Notts news, Trans World Sport, Worldsport, CBBC Newsround, BBC Sports personalilty and Let's Dance for Comic relief on a Saturday night does'nt count!!!!!!!!


We have to wait and see if Hennessey does get a deal, even if it is one fight to start with least it is better than nothing, least it gives the sport the chance to shine on Terrestrial TV rather than be stuck on sky where you have to pay to watch it.

Makes no difference to me as long as he's matched correctly


These are important factors in a good promoter IMO
Minimun record padding
Good stable of top boxers
3 competitive fights per card
Getting BIG fights at the right time

Hennessy, Maloney, Sanigar.

All have a proven record for building a boxer from their pro debuts. They all put excellent shows on too.

I think it is very healthy and competitive at the moment. FW puts on big shows, Hayemaker deliver good shows as do Hatton Promotions, Frank Maloney and Fight Academy, and then Matchroom look like they are coming through.The only person I do feel for is Mick Hennessy, who did a great job of bringing fighters through.I hope he gets a tv contract with Channel 5 and a few fighters signing for him again.

No I don't, but have been a big follower of Froch's over the years and have taken notice of what he has done, bit of a sad git really.

If I'm honest i'm not a massive Hennessey fan, but like the way he has gone down the genuine route and built fighters, feel sorry for him now, i just wonder if ITV hadn't kicked him in to touch he would of been up their with Frank W.

If you look at this over the last 10 years and consider who has built there own fighters from scratch and who has put on the best and biggest shows you'd have to say :

1 : Warren - followed closely by

2 : Hennessey

3 : Maloney

The rest don't even come into it I'm afraid

Why do all the best fighters once they have been built up by a certain promoter always seem to fall out with him and go alone. One thinks some promoters have the right intentions but driven by their own personal financial gain first. No names mentioning MR WARREN.
His shows are good but the way he treats fighters is like a bully reminds me of Animal Farm by George Orwell.

Turning up to be interviewed by John Craven is all well and good but it's small beer compared with not having your World Title fight with Jermain Taylor broadcast live anywhere in the UK. which ever way it's cut, Henessey has significant responsibility for that state of affairs.

Picking fighters when there amateurs and then building and nurturing them when no one believes in them is obviously a long hard road with plenty of investment.

This should be admired and respected by all concerned instead of patting parasites on the back who steal them.

wasn't it live on the internet PPV at 2am in the morning, also i remember it was replayed on the Sunday on ITV1.

Darren Barker gets a world title shot on a Lou DiBella show. McCloskey got his title shot on a Khan Promotions show.

In addition to promoting and more of a priority, for me, is aggressive match making.

Now doubt you voted for Warren and as far as that criteria goes he is at the bottom of the list. Plus I have been to his shows and to say he couldnt care less about the fans is an understatement. Security is laughable, customer care is abysmal and his matchmaking is pathetic, however apart from that he is decent.

Matchroom are on the rise and are making the right noises, in time they will be No1. You can stick to supporting Warren and getting ripped off

allegedly is the number one still. But having paid £200 quid for a ticket to Degale v Groves with one competiitive fight on the bill I will think twice about going to another. Matchroom are on the rise which is good for the sport as they have resources. Frank Maloney is still number 2. Hennessy unfortunately it has gone wrong for him.
As for Hatton promotions time will tell.

DB is high up in the WBC rankings why not make him mandatory challenger with a couple of fights that would ease him into and get him ready for someone like Martinez.

He would earn probably five times as much money and be better prepared for his shot.

This just smacks of desperation and incompetence.

earsjohn, you need to get your facts right before coming on here and posting, the fight was live in the UK, i watched it on the internet PPV, cannot rememeber the company name. Also it was on ITV the next day. so BBC lets Dance for sport reflief live on BBC 1 Saturday night with 10 million viewers was small beer, so does that make appearing on ringside a panda pop!!!!!!!!!

But you are saying that Matchroom ARE No 1. Not they will be or they might be. And as you point out they "are making the right noises". But that's what they are - noises.

The biggest show they have promoted in recent years was Audley v Sprott.

I went to the Barker v Spada show and saw no great evidence of great or aggressive matchmaking. Indeed the way Matchroom are milking the Evangelou brothers because they are ticket sellers says the opposite.

Merely hating Warren is no reason to say Matchroom are No 1.

The reason Channel 5 could be fantastic for Boxing is because unlike Itv and BBC you don't have to worry about big shows like x factor therefore they can go out at a much better time for the viewing public.

Fella, your singling out one example, when I can give 10 examples of what W@rren has done and what damage he has done to boxing.

Does that make him the best promoter? No, no in my book. Its not hate, as he couldn't care less what I think and why should he. I speak as a boxing fan. Boxers should be matched correctly and the money comes in time, which is the direction Matchroom is taking.

That, to me, is much more important than a W@rren fighter fighting in a 90-10% match up. That does nothing for boxing, the fighter development or for me, as a fan.
