I agree with the general sentiments of this thread though.

I've criticised Frank Maloney repeatedly for serving up mismatches, but those are young prospects - this particular mismatch is for a the British title and shouldn't be allowed, by either the board or Sky.

They need to clamp down on this interalphabetty bullshit too. It's bad enough having two domestic titles with the British and the Commonwealth, we don't want this crap too.

The worst this year? It's got some competition.

Jamie McDonnell v Nick Otieno with Wright v Smedly on the u/c was fairly uninspiring.
John Murray v El Ouazghari and BJ Saunders blowing away a hopelessly outmatched Turk was desperately poor on paper, although Murrays weak performance and the gameness of his opponent helped lift it a little.
Hatton again with Denton Vassell v Bethuel Ushona and Matt Askin on the u/c.

I think last nights wasn't helped by some late pull outs as both Ancliff and De Luca were late changes for more credible opponents.

Given that Sky are putting on a show each and every week (and with Prizefighters and foreign cards there's quite often 2 shows a week), the occasional stinker or disappointment is to be expected.

I guess the question that needs asking is, would no boxing be better than cards like last night? I'd say a resounding no. The domestic boxing scene isn't so rammed full of talent across each division that 3-4 mouthwatering 50-50 clashes can be dished up each week. There has to be a balance between building fights for up and comers, mandatory and straight forward defences against limited opponents and closely fought interesting match ups.

It's all very easy to criticise in hindsight, but there are a number of intangibles which mean its impossible to tell which way a card will turn out. Take last weeks Edwards v Edwards clash - there was a lot of comment on here about how that was a terrible choice for a SNF headliner, yet it was an absolute cracker. We have to take the rough with the smooth and given the amount of boxing sky are broadcasting currently, they are probably due a bit of slack when a stinker turns up.

I thought Edwards vs Edwards was a cracking co-headliner even on paper. The little men always provide good value scraps more often than not.

From a personal standpoint, I dont need to be seeing World title fights every week, hell I dont even need British title fights every week. All I need to see on a regular basis is Competitive fights, at any level. Every fight last night was won before the fighters even touched gloves. that to me is just sickening.

Agree the sky show was terrible tonight ,Whats with the Micky mouse belts ,Thought all of Hattons boxers had a easy night ..Can see sky walking away from boxing viewing figures must be shit with bills like that

Appalling card. Dreadful. One redeeming feature was having Maklin and Barker in the studio together, but the novelty of that quickly wore off after hearing Maklin describe Murray's win as a "workman-like performance" for the ninth time.

I think Hatton's matchmaking has been good prior to this card, which was poor. But they deserve some leeway as long as this kind of thing isn't repeated.

Generally i think there has been a more competitive element to the fights on Sky over the last six months or so and long may it continue. Live matches are the only way to maintain the support. I thought Blackwell had the look of a real novice and i'm surprised this fight was cleared by either Sky or the Board.
