The incredible thing about Tex Cobb (well, one of them) is that I've easily read 20 great quotes from him, but all the quotes I've read on this thread are new to me. I believe it was in the Holmes fight when he looked at the ref and said "help me, I'm white!"
more from Tex:
"Larry Holmes didn't beat me, he just won the first 15 rounds"
On being told that Cosell was quitting boxing telecasts after his fight with Holmes: "I would have gone another 15 if he'd quit calling football."
When asked by a ref where he was: "I am in Reno, getting the sh*t kicked out of me."

More Cobb. A reporter told him that he waS RESPONSIBLE for making Howard Cosell quit boxing.
Cobb said he couldn't have done more for the world had he cured cancer.

Tex was awesome. He was great in Fletch 2. He was the inmate in the jail. Chevy chase asks him his name. Randall says Ben Dover.

A modern classic posted by bennie:
"In an interview on Iran Barkley on Boxing Insider, "The Blade" was asked if Tommy Hearns praised him after their first fight in which Hearns was shocked in three rounds.
Said Barkley: "Well, you know, Tommy said to me, 'Good fight'. It wasn't much that he could say. They just carried him out."
And an old classic:
Jerry Quarry, I think, was interviewed by some BBC guy, just after he'd knocked stone cold in 30 seconds, the latest Brit heavyweight hope.
The desperate & shocked BBC reporter, seeking some sort of positive for the fallen hero, asked "Well.........did you find his style awkward at all Jerry?"
The good natured Quarry answered "Ummm...I guess he kinda fell awkwardly"

Mickey Walker, 'The Toy Bulldog', had always been irritated by the legacy of Stanley Ketchel. It seemed no matter what Mickey did, in the eyes of the average boxing fan, he could not compete with 'The Michigan Assasin.' One day, however, Mickey met a man at a bar who appeared different. The guy was profuse in his declarations of how great Walker was. Flattered, Walker bought the guy a beer. The guy went on gushing about Walker-this and Walker-that. Eventually, Mickey got the nerve: how did the fan feel he would do against Ketchel?
Without blinking an eye and with beer still in hand, the fan said: "He would've moydered you!"

I think I went something like
Merchant- "Bernard, you got paid for doing nothing today"
Hopkins-"Larry, you get paid for doing nothing everyday."
I also like the story about Sam Langford trying to touch gloves with an opponent (as you would before the last round) at the start of the fifth, when his opponent protested, "It's not the last round" Langford replied, "Oh yes it is" and went on to knock him out.
