I'll be supporting Haye, always have always will (while he's in the ring). I've watched him since the world am's in liverpool where i was living at the time, watched a few of his early fights and then went out to Paris to watch him beat Mormeck. That was the last one i went to as he selfishly forgot to consult me before announcing dates and i've been skiing (v Enzo), in the States (v Ruiz & Barrett) and married v Harrison

I found the 20 seconds or so when he smacked Audley silly quite exciting, yeah. That's 20 or so more seconds of excitement than we've seen in the last 10 years of Wlad's fights!
I'm supporting Haye. I like him, as a fighter and as a person (from what I see on telly). You don't need to be Mr Polite/Respectful/Courteous to be likeable. He has what's called a personality, something we haven't had in the HW division since Tyson packed it in.
Suddenly people are interested in the HW division again, and it's because of him. I can't even remember who Wlad fought last, which shows how little I cared about it. And I follow boxing pretty closely.

I'm supporting Haye because he's exciting (when he fights) and a breath of fresh air in the stale heavyweight division. He has created a spark. I'm also a lot more clear on his personality than I am on Wlad's.
Wladimir Klitschko is an intelligent man. He's able to put on a mask when he's in public. It's very difficult to gauge his true personality. He could be really nice or he could be an absolute shite. I don't know, but I have a bad feeling about him, and I've not been wrong about these kinds of things before in my life.
So, while your friends might not be jingoistic thugs, it appears they are friends with someone who is very judgemental, and likes to stereotype.

Nothing of any real significance. Win or lose the Hamburg police will have a busier night than usual but travelling boxing fans are normally a lot more sensible than the twerps who kick-off back home.
The only reason I say this is because if there are upto 10000 Uk fans some are bound to kick off.

I was at Wimbledon yesterday and got chatting to some random toffs....one of them made the comment that "I suppose here it is a lot more civilised atmosphere than the fight will be on Saturday." I told them I was a keen boxing fan so they asked me who I was picking.
I said; "Heart says Haye, head says Klitschko."
One them replied, "I think it's heart and head says Klitschko! Haye is a bit of a twat isn't he?"
I've been a fan of Haye since he turned pro but I can see how his personality could rub people the wrong way. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people who prefer their sport stars to be humble want to see him lose. I think it's fair to say Bruno was more popular than Haye is now and his personality was the opposite to Hayes.

I'm not sure it's humility some people want.
I think they just like sportsmen to be genuine or at least convincing. As soon as Haye steps in the ring he looks the part but for me, and I'd imagine most other people who aren't cretins, his promotional act is blatantly transparent. Yes, there are enough cretins to make it worth his while but you know what I mean.

I work with a big group of lads who are mostly in their late teens and early twenties and the majority of them want haye to get ko'd as they think he has gone too far this time in the build up to this fight,and i agree with them

It was actually klitschko that brought up the whole borat thing on ringside saying he saw sacha baron cohen in london and started doing the borat accent because he is from khasakstan too. Then in all the press confrences after he complained that haye had compared him to borat.
Wrong actually Kingfinn - Haye was asked why he didn't want to come in the same room as him and Haye said something like "I cannot stand him, I don't want to be near him" and said he sounded like Borat...... THEN Klitchsko laughed and talked about Sarcha Baron Cohen and doing the impression.

what a suprise the people who work with you at monsoon didnt know the fight was on
Plus tyson v holyfield and lewis v bruno were before lewis v tyson so im not to sure what you're being so smug about.

Great thread!
Inaccurate to say Wlad killed the division though, he can only beat what's out there and I don't think he's ducked anyone. Not his fault the big Americans now channel into easier but lucrative sports.
Also not accurate to still term Haye the future of heavyweight boxing. Immediate future, yes, but by his own reckoning the future ends this year.
If Haye beats both brothers and then retires, Wlad and Vitali will still be the men to beat - and presently I can't see anyone who might do that, Haye aside.

People like and dislike who they want.
My group of friends are kinda split on Haye. The ones that are more into their boxing want him beaten - they're the ones that saw him chasing Wlad up the elevator, spouting all kinds of crap in order to gain publicity rather than actually fighting etc.
The rest think he's a breath of fresh air, though they don't buy into the constant crap that Steve Bunce and the like peddle for David, in fairness to them.
Personally, I think he's a knob and wouldn't sulk if he was taught a lesson on Saturday. When Hatton lost to Floyd I sulked for a day or so, but by the time he fought Pacquiao he'd turned into a knob himself and again I wasn't all that fussed when he lost..... though the manner of defeat kinda spooked me.
