Mikkel Kessler may be a one-dimensional Euro-clone stand-up jab jab right hand merchant, but I have had a serious man-crush for him ever since he got out the ring in Wales & stood in front of millions of people & when asked about his busted hand & how it affected his performance he said: "The hand? No. It would not have changed the outcome. No. I did not lose because of the hand," with his bottom lip trembling & his eyes all glistening with tears. That's what you look like when you've lost, you're injured & it meant the fvcking world to you. I instantly became a fan of his & I probably will be until he retires.
Nearly made me well up seeing the lad do that. Haye has misjudged the post-fight antics, just as he misjudged the pre-fight.

And Lennox went out on his shield, the only way he was losing was if you landed the punch of a lifetime and knocked him flat.
Re: Haye: I was all talk (video)
In both of Lewis's defeats he was ahead on the cards when a heavy underdog caught him with KO punch, so there was an element of drama/surprise which made a rematch appealing. Haye was dominated over 12 boring rounds and trailed from the outset against a long-reigning champ. There is nothing appealing about Klit-Haye II.

Totally agree!
would Haye have got credit if he'd gone out on shield in the first three rounds. No he would have got labelled a chinless fraud with a big mouth....oh

Agree with your post. It wasn't even just the toe excuse for me (although I really cringed during that), it was the fact that he was standing there with a smile on his face when interviewed as if he was just standing in the pub. He just didn't look like someone who had left absolutely everything on the line to achieve his dream. He looked like someone who was pleased to have just made it through the night without getting hit too much (which maybe he was).
Someone else mentioned Nadal on here - he refused to mention that he had a fractured foot during wimbledon and even when repeatedly asked about it after the final he said he didn't want to mention it as he was beaten by the better man. Nobody likes a bad loser, and it seems even Haye and his team have now realised that after the complete about-turn in his comments compared with 2 days ago.
We were told Haye's poor taste comments pre-fight were just an act and it wasn't his real persona. It seems like his comments today are also just an act (in the opposite way) to cover up his inability to accept defeat without pathetic excuses.

Which interview? I agree he's come across well yesterday afternoon and today but they are the interviews where people suspect he has been told to change his tune.alexpaterson wrote:I really thought Haye came across brilliantly on Sky Sports News, he was honest about the fight and his future.
His SSN interview on the morning after the fight was all poor referee, incorrect scorecards, sore toe etc and no honesty at all imo.

I have no idea why people are so against Haye having another crack? Who else is there for the Klits to fight? any other fight doesn't interest me and definitely won't generate a superfight buzz. Wlad can even market the fight on the toe excuse
Re: Haye: I was all talk (video)
Would a repeat of Saturday nights fight interest you? I personally wouldn't pay for it. I'd much rather see someone else get a chance who will at least have a go and engage (even if it ends in disaster) than sit through another damp squib. Haye vs Valuev and Hayve vs Wlad are two nights of my life wasted that I'll never get back again.rapid2 wrote:I have no idea why people are so against Haye having another crack? And was a 'superfight buzz' created? Maybe here in the UK, but only approx 38k seats were sold out of 55k at the arena and I can see that dropping for a rematch.
Re: Haye: I was all talk (video)
Haye says he would do it differently next time. And I believe Wlad would go for the knockout next time. I think it would be a better fight. But that's just me. Anyway, I expect Wlad to say no and then haye to retire. Then I can go back to ignoring the heavyweight division.mkirkhope wrote:Would a repeat of Saturday nights fight interest you? That's the first time I've been called German.
And why do I have a nerve saying Haye is boring - I didn't - I said the Valuev and Wlad fights were very boring. Care to disagree?
And who made Saturday night boring? Wlad for trying to force the pace or Haye for running and refusing to engage?
I simply said I'm not interested in another Haye vs Wlad borefest. Hardly a ridiculous opinion. You need to take your David Haye t-shirt and shades off.

As for who made the fight boring, they were both as bad as each other. Wlad was his typically cautious self prodding out with his jab and fighting scared, this idea that Haye ran the whole fight is truly laughable as he spent plenty of time against the ropes exactly where Wlad wanted him but as usual he didn't do anything and when he was sent out by Steward and big brother to knock out Haye in the 12th he got caught himself and then clinched on with all his weight so all his big talk of punishing Haye for 11 rds with a pizza face and then knocking him out in the 12th was just as much Bullshit as what Haye talked in the end.
Did Wlad actually throw any other punch for 12 rds apart from left jab right hand, thats truly a reflection on how poor the Heavyweight division is. Give me Lamon's Brewsters short but exciting career as Heavweight champion then Wlad's whole career in terms of entertainment value.
I'm hardly a Haye fan as my previous posts on here in the past with testify to that. Infact he was a total chancer at Heavyweight and there was nothing in his previous fights against Barrett, Valuev, Ruiz and Harrison that gave me the impression that he would cut it in the divison.
I had such low expectations of how Haye would do on saturday night that he actually over-achieved in my eyes, not only by surviving the 12 rds and taking some of Wlads best punches but also winning 2 or 3 rds.
Forget about Haye, this was Wlads moment to make a statement and the sad thing is this was his 'Rumble in the jungle' moment, the fight he'll be remembered for which is laughable really as the fight was absolutely boring and he beat a man he was 4 inches and 30 lbs bigger then.

I didn't say Wlad was an excitment machine, I just said out of the two of them Haye is the main reason I found it boring. I'll stand by that. He's not good enough to make it interesting and therefore I don't want to see it again in 3 months time.

David Haye has been a credit to british boxing both as an amateur and a professional. From the very start he faced tough competition and even after the set back to Thompson he came back and did everything he said he would do at Cruiserweight, maybe doing the same at Heavyweight has proved too high a mountain to climb but at least he tried and he certainly didn't embarrass himself in his attempt and if he did choose to walk away now i for one would thank him for giving me some great nights as a boxing fanmkirkhope wrote:So you are saying the fight was 'absolutely boring' but you want to see a rematch? I just find it very strange that you, machoman, jamesmcdonnel and deserter feel some spiteful need to twist the knife in and kick him whilst he's down without giving him a shred of credit for what he's acheived. You don't have to support him just because he's british although considering you all post mostly on a British boxing forum kind of contradicts this so what's your agenda towards him?
As for your 'hero' Wladimir Klitschko
This is a man who has killed Heavyweight Boxing with his boring jab and grab mentality.
His pitiful undercards have stuck 2 fingers up to the live auidence and been perhaps the worst in boxing history.
How dare he deride Haye for his 'Toe excuse' when he came out with every excuse under the sun for his loss to Lamon Brewster including being 'Poisoned' instead of coming out and saying the better man won!
Letting his big brother avenge his losses to Ross Puritty and Corrie Sanders as he wouldn't do it himself.
Only facing Brewster again after 3 years when Lamon was virtually blind in one eye, had been out of action for over a year and was broke due to medical costs. Facing him even though no ethical boxing boxing board(British and most american states) would have allowed him a licence to box with limited vision in one eye yet Germany had no problem(see Riddock Bowe/Evander holyfield etc)
Re: Haye: I was all talk (video)
I don't really understand where your attitude and aggression is coming from. I said I found the Saturday night fight boring (as did most of the population), and laid the majority (but not all) of the blame for that with Haye. You say you aren't a Haye fan but you seem to be wildly attacking anyone who doesn't think Haye is the best thing ever. I've clearly said in my post above Wlad is 'no excitement machine' but you're telling me he's my favourite boxer - you need to just calm down. Or at least stop putting statements I haven't made in my mouth.exittored wrote:mkirkhope wrote:exittored wrote: David Haye has been a credit to british boxing both as an amateur and a professional. "You give him no credit for what he has achieved" - Yes, I do. I'm on record many times on here stating his achievements at cruiser are excellent, and that I've really enjoyed some of his cruiser performances (enzo mac esp). Just because we've been highly critical of him in this particular fight (and Valuev) don't make out we've rubbished his entire life/career. Those two performances were stinkers and we should be allowed to say that. Or do we have to blindly accept them because he is British?
"Your hero Wlad Klitschko" - Where have I said he's even close to my hero? I've said he's underrated, and that I think he's a better boxer at heavy than Haye. Pretty straightforward view that I stand by. He's not in my top 25 favourite current boxers though - and can be difficult to watch.
Are you allowed to be critical of the performance of a fighter in a fight, or does that mean you have an agenda? You clearly have an absolute hatred for the Klitschko's and can't seem to accept anyone saying they like them or giving them credit for their performance. Adam Booth today described Wlad as 'phenomenal' - if you think the opposite then that's fine, but it doesn't mean you are right.
I can't believe you've flown off the handle so badly just for me saying I don't think he deserves a rematch (just like any other fighter that wins 2 or 3 rounds doesn't deserve a rematch - british or not).
