This is a very dangerous fight for Chunky. I am surprised he has gone for this straight away, he needs a few more learning fights in my eyes as he is not there yet. It could go all tits up if he loses.

They need to get George a meaningful fight ASAP. Be ironic if the bloke he beat steals a march on him. Understanding is Dean Powell got this fight sorted for Chunk, fair play to him.

The situation with the EBU is interesting.
It has repercussions for other fighters who have still been told no EBU title fight following a loss.

But matchmakers are paid when they make poor matches too, being paid doesn't mean he shouldn't get credit for making a good match. Further more, credit to De Gale for taking it. There'd be easier routes if they were that way inclined.

Giving credit where it's due. No mention of Dean's involvement otherwise on this thread, just FW. FW's sons both thanking Powell on Twatter yesterday. EBU have dropped the rule, obstructive to sanction fees.

DeGale/Groves European/Commonwealth/British unification rematch with Jim Watt commentary .

to be fair, if James wins it steals the momentum from Groves and puts a belt there that Groves would crave unless he can somehow get a shot at a World Title. Given that the SMW division is so competitive at the moment, I can't see Groves winning a belt so this is chance for James to force the rematch issue.

Dean P has given James a massive chance to redeem himself instantly and its possibly the belt he would have gone for if the Groves fight had squeaked his way instead of Georges.

I've had some clarification from the EBU - I'll try and do a little bit on it later mate.

Needless to say, subjectivity is a factor - it isn't 'black and white'.

This type of thing is happening across sport in general these days. Everyone wants the teams/people that bring the most money to the table. Just look at the champions league in football, a team who fails to win a trophy all season but can finish in 4th place gets into the champions league.

So who is the arbitor of what constitutes a bad defeat ?

Rendall Munroe was overlooked for a straight shot at his old belt because of that ruling.

Out of interest, does anyone think that his loss to Nishioka was altogether 'bad' in the EBU's sense of the word? I certainly don't. Okay, he was out-boxed over the course of the 12 but wasn't, say, beaten up throughout and then knocked out.

Koneckny is vacating as he has got his shot at the WBO World title, so don't understand why Rhodes shouldn't get his chance straight in for the vacant title.
After all, he didn't lose it in the first place in the ring.

Apparantly contract signed for this fight now according to dean powells twitter

I think this fight will be moved to appear on a bigger bill featuring Cleverly, Mitchell, Gavin and Murray etc. My guess would be some time in Oct.

Again i think they need these bigger bills to sell tickets.

If it does come off, what does everybody think about DeGale's chances? I had a look at a couple of vids of Wilczewski on youtube and he looks a bit tasty. Heavy handed, good puncher and physically very strong looking.
