Has the next 'Mike Tyson' been born yet?

to answer the OP - one day there will be another exciting knockout specialist who will have us looking forward to HW boxing again, but there will never be another Mike Tyson :(

In response to Tyson's early opponents, there were a few who stood up and gave it a go, Mike Jameson, Steve Zouski come to mind. Don't get me wrong they were hopelessly outclassed but at least they dug in. They certainly gave a better acount of themselves than some of the tubs of lard around today. However there were quite a few stiffs on Tyson's early record too.

What we need today is a bout 10/15 journeyman heavyweights who are happy to give it a go and not go down at the first whiff of a jab, give the younger guys something to think about.
How David Haye must have wished he could have been tested by a James 'Quick' Tillis or a Bonecrusher Smith over a few rounds...

Most of Tyson's opposition wasn't great.

It was better that the current faeces around.

The likes of Spinks, Ruddock, Mid-80's Holmes, Berbick et al imo were ridiculously better than everyone presently, and infact probably taken on Wlad.

Only HW that would be able to take on the 80's and 70's bunch is Vitali imo

Wlad's 1/2 style may be effective in this era, but i sincerly doubt it would work against the likes of a Prime Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, Foreman, Ali, Holmes, Frazier, Spinks, Liston etc.

The Klitschkos are around now, so it's not fair to exclude them from a comparison.

Well in that case if perez is the closest thing out there to Iron Mike then the heavyweight division really is in a sad state of affairs .

i usually like to think its due to everyone holding past fighters in a higher regard nd that the heavies arent as bad as people think , and while i do think that is the case and that the domination of the klits make it seem weaker , to compare Perez to Tyson really puts a downer on things for me , i want to be excited by the Heavyweights like i was as a teen in the mid 90s , now i know that it wasnt the golden era then but i was excited by it , it got me interested in boxing in the first place , how id love that to happen again , maybe we would alos attract a lot more fans to the sport , bringing more money and in turn better fights , on paper at least .

Spinks was a good light heavyweight yet id say Haye is a better Heavy, Bruno was a solid fighter but i'd back Odliander Solis to beat him, Id back Thomasz Adamek over Tony Tubbs, Chris Arreola over Tony Tucker, Eddie Chambers over Tyrell Biggs, Id back either Klitshko over Larry Holmes, and Id even back Mike Perez over Buster Douglas. Ok maybe i wouldnt back all of these but im saying there isnt a great deal of difference in standard. The difference is in nationality, and marketability. Today's era don't appeal to the mass audience hence why we think heavyweight boxing has had it.

Along with the fact that the fighters at the top in the main dont seem to be fighting each other , but yeah i aggree saleability plays a huge part in peoples opinions

Interesting. I'll just say that I basically think the opposite about all the examples you gave. The only one I'd think twice about is Solis - Bruno and that's because we don't know how good Solis is (I don't read anything into the Klitschko fight other than that he wasn't in fighting shape, surprise, surprise)
