Well, thank you Big Mark.BIGMARK wrote:he posted a heavybag video on the Training forum and got ripped for his weight. It was a bit un-fair as he had just started working out to lose weight but was ganged up on. He had quite decent handspeed for a big fella but threw a lot of arm punches. I got some good feedback on my clips and it improved my techinic but it did take balls to post them in the first place as it does leave one open for abuse.Jon Saxon wrote:I missed that what happeded?BIGMARK wrote: You should see me dance![]()

When I posted them up, I was 23 and a half stones and getting back into after a long time out, I wouldn't say I was using 'arm punches' rather that I was hitting the bag for speed as hitting bags (with or without handwraps) with power is a good way to fornicate your hands and wrists up and at the age of 39 - my hands and wrists are still injury free and I can still hit bags..
As for the critics who on the forums and via PM who said I (and Mark) was shit - put your video up? They never did - so that is that really. When you put yourself above the turret - you are going to get people being nasty for no reason and you will get positive, useful feedback which as Mark says - you can use and improve on.
Well, here it is anyway - remember chaps - 23 and a half stones and 38 years old.

NB: They were a lot kinder on here at the OS than on doghouse, so thank you to all concerned!!
Oh, and a poster who comes on here 'poodlepoo' who trains at the same gym as me kindly said that mine was one of the fastest left jabs he has seen - so here is my opportunity to thank him on here!

Re: whose over 40 and still trains on here?
boxing may be a young mans game but most the "beasts" I see in terms of bodybuilding or powerlifting, or running, or jujitsu are all old men over 40.
Ive got 7 years to ho before i hit 40 but the guys I see lifting the most, with the most muscle mass, tapping out the others the most, running the fastest.......are all old men!
No offence to anyone but some of you guys who say u cant run anymore, its not a age issue. Its a weight issue or a your not very good at running issue. I run a mile in 7 minutes but im always being beaten by far older and sometimes even heavier men.
In the local weights gym u always get the insecure out to prove himself early 20 something taking steroids since the first day he trained but still unable to bench 100Kg ten times fuuck that not even 5 times.
Nope i think people over 40 should step it up and keep training hard.
Obviously pro boxing is a young mans game due to the huge reliance on speed, reflexes and the ability to keep taking a punch which most old guys cant be bothered about anymore since they realise by that age there is more to life than being hit in the face.

Re: whose over 40 and still trains on here?
I'm 45 now and seem to have one niggle after another - back, knees, shoulder. I cycle a lot and strangely I seem to be getting stronger and faster. A few months ago, I bought myself a nice racing bike and started chasing the serious young club cyclists who do laps of Richmond Park. It was absolute torture at first - especially on the hills with the wind in my face - but now I'm managing to hold my own with them.
