gavin is a defensive fighter. he is happy to pose and admire the fact that he slipped shots rather than be agressive and take his man out

Woodhouse has also never been 12 rounds. What's the longest he's gone?

It's about head and heart.
For once my heart rules my head and for the first time in a long time I seriously want a fighter to shut his opponent up.
Come on Curtis - who gives a f**k about the weight.
You're already under his skin.

Haha, Haye talked his way into a fight and and then apparently got under Wlad's skin. Didn't do him much good though.
Honestly think Frankie gets a hard time on this forum, he's nothing like the prima donna some posters believe he is. On reflection I don't think he could have come out on top in this situation. Curtis started the calling out and started the insults, Frankie responded. Curtis got beat, said he's stop calling Frankie out, started up again because Frankie was below-par last time out, and Frankie took the fight. Curtis is lauded for taking fight and has nothing to lose, Frankie's fan's see it as a foregone conclusion and think their man should be fighting a better opponent. Curtis is the underdog, Frankie the overwhelming favourite. People on this forum still quote things from Frankies first post, or jump on anything less than gentlemanly that he may have said in interviews, whereas Curtis can do no wrong. Its always, 'go on Curtis'.
I don't have anything against Curtis, and plenty of respect for him, but the way that some posters are making this out like this fight is good vs evil is laughable. At least it won't make a difference on fight night.

Spot on mate. People seem to forget who initiated the warring. I like Curtis but he's certainly not the angel he's been portrayed as.

Simple question then.
Given the weight issue, do you think your man handled the situation well, or otherwise, not forgetting his previous issues with weight.
It's not the banter that has got people going, it's the arrogance with which he resolved the situation.

Agreed 26.
Gavin tells curtis that he should be happy he got more money and be happy that frankie "is giving him money".
How about saying "sorry that I can't make the weight we agreed on"

Do I think he handled it well? I think he could have perhaps handled it better. It would probably have helped if he could have had the kind of media training that has sapped the likes of Theo Walcott from having a personality. He'd probably say the 'right thing' then, although I prefer to hear what they say rather than what they're told to say. Ricky Hatton constantly made jokes about his own success and riches compared to those of his rival Junior Witter, but that was ok for some reason despite being more personal than anything Frankie has said. Perhaps if Junior posted here........
I honestly don't believe that Frankie needs to go cap in hand apologising to someone who talked their way into a fight rather than earned it in the ring. I accept I'm probably a minority thinking that, and its not a question of not respecting Curtis, simply that Frankie doesn't owe Curtis anything, and wouldn't lose anything by fighting someone else in his place - Curtis would lose his big shot though. Curtis isn't a mandatory, he got the shout because he made noise on Dean Powell's phone. Is Curtis lucky to get the fight? Yes, in my opinion he is, I'd rather Frankie fought someone rated more highly. From Curtis' side, when the balls aren't in your court you have to do what you have to do to get the opportunities. He obviously agrees or he would have pulled out, credit to him for that. It's sometimes unfair and unfortunate, but that's how boxing works. If you grab your chance, win, and become a good winner, you wind up calling the shots. The whole 'Poor Curtis' rhetoric is getting a little tiresome; he has a fantastic chance that most fighters at his level would walk over hot coals for.
If I was Frankie, I wouldn't worry too much. John Murray got hammered for weighing a dogs fart over the weight for the Lawton bout, but on the eve of a big fight for him this weekend, nobody gives a shit.

Thanks for taking a massive detour to get to the answer.
FFS this ISNT about Curtis Woodhouse.
This is about a boxer allegedly destined for big things, who cannot be arsed to make the pre determined contractual weight for a fight, then coming out with the attitude - well f**k u do what I say or I'll get someone else in.
Then to cap it all, starts giving it big licks about HIS money.
I'd love to hear what Mr Warren / Ayling think about that.
The first line of your response was enough without justifying the unjustifiable.
Could he have handled it better ? Too right he could.
Anyway that's the last I'm bothered about saying on the subject.

No need to get lairy TwentySix, I respect your opinion on here but if you want to get personal about it, you clearly have an axe to grind. I think the dislike on display is related to Curtis, and that people's like for Curtis is clouding overall judgement about Frankie. If you have a problem with 'Warren/Ayling', which you do, then take it up with them.
It's not ideal, no. I didn't say it was, but it's not the first time it's ever happened. People do things in boxing and life goes on. I remember hoping Rhodes would fight Anthony Small but it didn't happen. Risk over reward was the thinking at the time, but Small wasn't popular on here so nobody made a deal of it. Small wanted his shot, and he actually earned it, but Rhodes thought 'fk him' and looked after number one. For what its worth I like Rhodes and think he was right to do that, but then I have no ill feeling towards his team or Smalls so I can make a neutral assessment on the matter. Something you might like to try sometime.
Probably better to direct your venom at those you intend it for mate

Yes I reckon Frankie Gavin will stop Curtis Woodhouse between the 4th-7th rounds. He is too big a man for him and a very accurate puncher with quick hands and Woodhouse will battered around the ring and will probably not even win a round.

What mentality is that? I'm not endorsing the practice, just being realistic.
I could bring up examples but to save the moderators time/effort, I won't. I'll leave it by saying that some fighters get the benefits of being the 'home' fighter more than others do. Some fighters have it held against them more than some others do. You all know it, and sometimes complain about it depending
who was hard done by. That's what I take exception to.

The shite Gavin has had to put up with in the build up to the Woodhouse fight begun far earlier than the weight issue arising.

gavin will destroy him, forget the recent off night from gavin, this is like a novice amateur against the best amateur in the world at the same weight ( i know there pros but its still 120 fights verus 15 and the quality difference in opponents is unbelievable ) gavin will toy with curtis and the harder curtis tries the more his gona get hurt, if the ref dont jump in and stop curtis within 6 rounds i will be absolutely gob smacked !

Woodhouse has never fought anyone of Gavin's caliber.
gavin has never fought anyone with woodhouses chin.
a stoppage is 4/5 for a reason
And who are the big punchers that have tested Woodhouse's chin? Anyway, I don't really look at this as a case where Woodhouse is going to be let down by a poor chin. In my book there is a significant gap in ability between these two fighters and this gap will enable Gavin to land a high number of shots that will eventually take a toll.

Ironically I'm a fan of both fighters, but for different reasons. I love Curtis' attitude and his willingness to leave his comfort zone behind to truly test himself. I love Frankie's skills and believe he can go way further than the cynics on here think.
In terms of the fight itself I think Frankie will manage a late stoppage, but the weight debacle has undoubtedly left a bad taste in my mouth. The deck was already stacked against Curtis without this sort of farce.

Frankie will stand Curtis on his head - the gulf in class will be clear from the very earliest moments of the fight in my opinion.
Full respect to Curtis for wanting to test himself against the best possible opponents (I only wish all prospects and their managers showed his level of self belief and thirst for competition) but I am afraid that Sat night is going to prove a painful lesson in the art of boxing for the ex-footballer.

Yup as most people have said, boxing ability wins here, unless Gavin has been horribly overrated.
Curtis is strong though, so I can't see a KO, maybe corner pulls him out after about 6, otherwise he goes the distance, if he isn't getting too badly outclassed.

James,
I did say I wouldn't write again, but I have to reply to your post.
First of all, I have no axe to grind with Warren / Ayling. In fact if you read my post I'm sticking up for them here.
OK, I'm banned from their shows for having the audacity to post on here on certain subjects, but hey that's life !!
The purse money is the Promotor's - until such time as the fighter has earned it.
Gavin going on about his money is not clever.
Secondly, as you have developed this into a discussion re Rhodes (which is a bit weird and irrelevent to the topic) the only reason the Small fight did not happen was due to Rhodes back injury.
That is documented with the Board and supported by medical evidence.
