Neil i can understand what your saying, however burns would have had to train 100 percent anyway, there's no way he would have listened to rumours and eased off in training even if he knew weeks ago about the back problem.

I bet Cook is gutted that he blew his massive chance to dethrone such a dominant champion and snatch the biggest prize in boxing last night.
I hope his life-threatening slipped disc, does not prevent him from spending that huge chunk of wedge that we all pay in Sky subscriptions every month either. For that would be another hammer blow in such terrible times for this unbelievable warrior that has thrilled us for years on end.
Shame on the those small-time bookies, like Ladbrokes and Coral for sullying his golden name with rumours of a 'FIX' in the house, by removing many of the betting options, forced by a London-led pattern of suspicious bets against him.
When I say grace before my Sunday roast, I shall will the lord into giving this fine sportsman a dose of good luck.
It's the very least he deserves.

Shitting on his menus sounds a bit tricky. Will you put them on the floor first? Or climb onto the table and squat over them? I suppose you could always bring a carrier bag of shit in that you'd prepared earlier and spread it on the menus with a trowel?

I can't see how he could have hit the pads in his warm up if the back was already that bad.
You could tell by his weight that he had trained, why do all of that if he planned to swallow it?
The freak injury sits fine with me

How do you account for the betting situation then Coco, as that could really only be attributed to insider knowledge?

Sounds more like a rumour that has got out of control. Betting was suspended by one of the bookies on round 3 when of course the fight ended in the first.
He has got a history of back trouble, it may well of snagged in training, he may well have had a cortisone injection, he may well have gone into the fight below par.
This may have fuelled the rumour.
However it was clear from his shape and weight that he had trained, you could not get in that shape if his back was proper bad.
When he was hitting the pads with hooks he has really putting his back into it which wouldn't be possible if the back had gone previously.

Sorry guys, but I'm going to retain my scepticism based on those betting patterns.

Could be due to the fact that he spoke openly about the problem over a year ago and then a few days before the fight. People may have lumped on it as Burns is a strong body puncher so they assumed the impact of his ribs shots would cause the back to give in. I had some quotes from him last year on the condition but he insisted he was under a specialist and it would be under control before he made any form of comeback.
I supposed we will never know but the fact the heavy betting on Burns occurred in East London where Cook is from does make you wonder if it was by someone who knew something.

Are you saying that Cook told people to bet that he would slip a disc in a certain round. F-me if he was that bloody good at predicting
he's be £166m better off this week not fighting for a world title. These accusations are a disgrace get real everyone. The kid tried to carry on for Christ sake and left in an ambulance. Cooks track record is as good as anyone and he deserves a bit more respect as a fighter and a man. We are talking about a slipped disc not a bloody little toe.

I think you have to read between the lines. Round 3 was being bet on heavily, at one stage 5/2 with Betfair. And I know a TKO/KO victory was being backed huge on the day too.
It all seems rather fishy to me mate. I have a feeling the plan was something like this; Cook already knew he had no chance since his back was messed up so was going to opt out in Round 3, however, instead it went horribly wrong for him in there.
Feel bad for Burns to be honest, what a waste of time.

There is no one to blame here. Robert Smith was completely right there is no need for sensationalism.
Agreed.

Having a bad back and living with it is one thing, having a slipped disc is another.
Not true more often than not you have symptoms.
Cook has had back problems for ages.

so naive asterix betting patterns indicate people new ,bookies always no best in any sport thats why betting suspended ,yes he had trained and looked in great shape but his back had went at some point in the build up to fight the news was leeked and people lumped on gamble landed for those who new and punters robbed who travelled south !its another shamefull night for boxing !

I don't think anybody is saying that, bc. People know Cook is a proven warrior. I think they are saying that people knew about his degenerative back problem giving him bother and doubted whether he would be able to last more than a few rounds in a world title fight as a result.
Saved me another post.

That was an absolute embarrassment to the sport, Cook and his entire team should be ashamed, i hope his purse is being held, he does not deserve a single penny for that effort!
How could he have gone through 8 to 10 weeks of intense training and sparring only to last 6 seconds on fight night? They had to know his back was touch and go and was not fit for a 12 round title fight, some might think he did not want to walk away from a good payday?
Synical, maybe, but who can argue otherwise after that showing!

It was a farse however in the defense of cook himself I would like to add this. I've had chronic back problems for 5 years and every doctor/specialist/physio/chiropractor etc etc has advised me to keep working/keep moving, don't sit still and dwell on it and don't stop the things you normally do just carry on as normal. That's the latest advice from the worlds leading back experts so you can't blame him for taking that advice and carrying on.
Also despite my constant back pain I've never slipped a disc whereas 4-5 people I know with no previous back trouble have, it can happen at anytime to anyone.

People suggesting he threw the fight need to get a grip. He has a dodgy back. So do I but I have never slipped a disc and I do heavy training and competitive combat sport. It was freak occurrance. If a rumour got out that Cook wasn't 100% so people start betting, the bookies get suspious blah blah blah. That is no proof. I'm happy that it was a genuine fight and Cook got a freak injury.

Exactly. Of course the sensible explanation is that Cook's back unexpectedly flared up in the first round. But you can't be that surprised if people to look at the strange end to the fight and strange betting pattern and speculate on a connection.
Either way I wish Cook a speedy recovery.
