He has not even got his man strength yet. Look at the improvement in his conditioning in this fight compared to all his others. If he continues with that attitude he can only improve. Going out to spar with big names and working with Steward can only help. His win over Chisora is a very good win and one most expected him to lose. He has learnt so much with regards to living the life in the last 12 months its remarkable.

He needs to work on his concentration levels in the ring. His jesting etc could leave him in trouble.

Looking at the fight Fury did look awkward and Chisora had him badly hurt in the second. The first thing the pair of them need to sort out though is improving their fitness. They were completely out of gas after the 9th.
I dont know what fight you was watching ,Fury was never hurt in that fight, watch the fight back as he wasn't wobbled or rocked and looked to have a clear head the few times he was caught.
I thought Fury just out fought Chisora 9 out of 12 rounds,he landed the better combos throughout...Fury does look awkward tho but that due to his size of near 7 ft lol
Fury got a good chin and the heart of a lion ,Remember me saying it he will put a beating on david price

I thought that too mate. The left hook that apparantly hurt him in the 2nd i'm not so sure it even connected all that cleanly at all? Fury fought a decent fight. Hitting and holding alot but he had to tie up Chisora on the inside. Chisora was very poor. Apart from round 2 and the 10th i think it was when he launched that attack he showed very little spark.

Your point about man strength is interesting. It's possible but gypsies in the vast majority mature very early in life. I have always found lads from this background are usually spent by the time they are 27/28. They tend to grow up quick with their lifestyle.
Fury is only early 20s but already looks mid 30s!

The lasting memory of this fight for me was the lack of power of both fighters.
Clearly I had been deceived watching Chisora before - I always thought his power was his get out of jail card, to make up for his lack of basic boxing skills.
Fury has never displayed power for me, up to this point in his career.
Fury has hit the heavyweight scene at just the right time.
He just might get to Euro level on the fast track, but for now you would have to say the World scene is a step too far.
I think talk of him making it big style is more a reflection of the heavyweight scene right now rather than Tyson's abilities.
However that is not his problem, so good luck to the guy.

"Lack of power" by Fury, Fury landed some points scorers, but also landed some very big shots - Chisora had a very good chin.

Sorry mate - disagree.
Chisora was there for the taking.
Fury's shots clearly couldn't put him away - and I don't think that had anything to do with Chisora's resilience.
Just my take mate.

It's just my opinion also, but Chisora was unbeaten and I can't remember him going down as a Pro, so maybe he just has an iron chin. I know one thing, he winced at those body shots.

i struggle to watch heavyweight boxing, especially at british level. The conditioning is poor, speed is poor and to be honest i think that fight last night was a poor spectacle for the average neutral. I don't think fights like that on free TV will be encouraging a surge of new fans into the sport.
Im still not convinced by Tyson Fury, he got the job done and last night was a great achievement for him so for that i obviously do have to give him credit.

By the standards of this division he's a very good fighter and could get a title shot if he really wanted it - but he needs a lot more work and seasoning. He does have good handspeed, good size and looks in reasonable condition, that will take him a long way.

I like Fury, he's as daft as a brush with a big heart. Del Boy is also a character too - I dare say I like him aswell.
They put on a very entertaining first half, with Chisora showing he can bang a bit and Fury showing some chin and heart. The second half lacked a lot of slickness. It was more bravado, grappling and panting.
I'd give the first half 8/10 and the second 4/10.
Basically a bit like Saving Private Ryan.

I agree he out fought chisora but I do believe he was wobbled in the second but recovered you watch it back he does have a chin but David price would beat him IMO and would show up the massive flaws in his style fury needs a better trainer .

100% Agree. I thought last night was hard to watch. I find it embarrassing that someone would turn up for a British title fight so unfit and uninterested as Chisora was. It really demeans the people who have given everything for these belts over the years. The casual fan that flicked past that fight last night would see our sport as a laughing stock rather than something they want to get into imo. They'd probably think 'I could do better myself' rather than understanding why people would pay lots of money to watch it at Wembley.
I said further up this thread I'm totally unconvinced with Fury. Doesn't seem to have a single punch that he throws correctly and seems to almost 'prod' his punches rather than throw them. Not sure what his coach has been teaching him really. I think he's done well to win that title at the age of 22 but I think it says much more about that division in the UK these days than it does about him - I think for him to progress a new trainer would have to take him completely back to basics and almost start again.
I accept I'm in the vast minority here, but I saw nothing last night to make me want to watch either of those guys again for a while. I also felt a bit sad that that was a commonwealth & british title fight.

Well i enjoyed it! People were raving about Chisora after the Sexton fights, who twice beat Rogan who knocked out Skelton, etc, etc, etc.Give the kid a bit of credit.

I agree mate, he's 22 years old, only 14 pro fights, hasn't taken the easy route, British and Commonwealth champion and #9 in the world by BoxRec. You have to be soft in the head to not see the size of those a acheivements.

To win the British and common wealth title in 14 fights and at just 22 years old that ent to bad is it ..we all know he ent good enough to win a world title tho as those Klischkos are huge beasts to face and far more skilled than dell boi lol...but give the lad his due

Fury could only beat what's in front of him, he trained and Del Boy didnt, shows who the pro is
Lack of power does seem to be his weakness, but not many heavies have the quickness he has and it will be very hard to hurt a guy like him, he's huge!

GLOBALBOX wrote:I thought the kid did well, He is what 22/23 British and Commonwealth champ, Could hold his own probably now but certainly in 2 years at European level and that makes him a 25 year old European heavyweight capable of fighting and winning that particular belt.
The Klitschko's will be gone in 4 years max, Vitali in a lot less than that, Fury will be in a Klitschko free division by the time he is 28, I think we need to cut him a break really.
Chin seems decent enough, hand speed is good, he throws 3, 4 and even 5 punch combinations with fair accuracy and speed, We know he can go a full 12 rounds now and for me Heavies dont really peak until around 27 so there may be some strength and conditioning to come.
He came back and took the initiative every time Chisora tried to up it and thats a pretty good mindset to have, his lack of one punch power at this current stage is something his team need to be wary of and I would definately not push him in with the Klitschko's yet. I understand that is where the money is but hell give it another 2 years minimum, Vitali might be gone and Wlad will be looking for his final few pay days.
There is good money to be made here still with a couple of heavyweights on our shores, Lets see if he can clear them out and then move towards the European belt.
Whilst now I think even without the Klitschko's he would not beat the best that they leave behind, I don't see how he is not in the top 20 and at such a young age I think thats a pretty
decent start
i agree mate, tyson is a long way off klitschko standard but there again so have been a lot of klit opponents (haye included!)
chirosa was due a shot at wlad, no one complained about that, yet tyson just beat him comprehensively. his benchmark fight will be against pryce, lets hope that fight is made later on this year for the brit/com strap.
fury was not too bad defensively too, lets not forget that, he moved and swayed quite well, i did not like his hands down but it did invite chirosa in and then tyson countered quite nicely with short straight crisp shots, what i liked was that fury was not loading up with silly hooks like chirosa was, tyson was throwing 'down the pipe' and was working the body well too. all in all he did a good job last night, no he does not have the pedigree of pryce, but he has heart/belief/chin and a bit of talent. this could take him a fair distance.

Fury should box in Manchester next to build a big following. Perhaps fight someone for commonwealth defence. If he goes for Wlad next it will ruin him!

My Mrs also commented that Fury looked an old 22, she saw him as looking about 34 or 35.
How many 7ft tall 18 stone men do you know that only look 22 ?? the man is huge ...he looks like a man
So us all us travlers are fcuked before we hit our mid 20s ?? god help me then

Dereck didn't put enough pressure on Tyson, he would come in relying on one big hook. If it had been a fighter like
Holyfeild or even
David Tua, he would've been in trouble. Your saying "he's only 22" Mike Tyson was heavy weight champ at 20. I hate it when people make age an excuse e.g "he's too old." Now the new one's "he's too young." WTF?

chirosa thought he was a class above fury and could KO him early, looks like del boy did not train properly and paid the price, he looked out of condition and very very one dimensional.

i've just read on the bbc that fury wants to challenge for the irish title then defend the british. How is he eligible to fight for the irish title? i understand he represented Ireland as an amateur then they kicked off about him not being eligible so he then represented England. Can anyone explain?

Yup Chisora obviously, coming so heavy, didn't take it as serious as he should have. He is normally a busy fighter, with good head movement and stamina. He sacrificed all of that because he thought it was going to be easy.
Credit to Fury, he did what he normally does, busy, good instincts and savy but again, lacks power and Chisora made it easier for him, by plodding towards him in straight lines and allowing himself to be held up close constantly, primarily because he was shattered himself.
As I have said in the past, Fury has a good chin and Derek does not punch immensely hard, so I thought a prepared Chisora would out point him but, last night showed that Fury is better than some thought and Chisora played right into his hands.
