Such assertions are not as ridiculous as they seem. The chinese diet will change radically in the next couple of decades as they move into the cities.

Back in 1920's england, men of 6 foot were considered to be big in their time. Jim Jeffries was considered a beast of a man at 6' 2" at the turn of the century. He would have dwarfed most men of his own time.

For a great heavyweight to emerge from one of those countries the populations will have to continue growing and there will have to be enough reasonably able and experienced heavyweight boxers for the standouts to spar with and compete with in the amateur/pros. At this moment there is absolutely no heavyweight scene in any of these countries, and the average person is still closer to being a featherweight than a heavyweight. I think the process of developing even a decent pool of heavyweight talent in Mexico, Japan, the Philippines, etc. will take much longer than it will for a great heavyweight to emerge from somewhere else.

Probably 30 years or so. Also depends on how well established their boxing infrastructure is. China has a good chance, because they take their sports very seriously over there, and will invest in olympic boxing. China probably already has some pockets of the population that are quite tall, as there are a lot of ethnic groups within china.

Eastern and Western Europe are going to dominate heavyweight boxing for some time t come. Lots of big strong men, a cultural affinity with boxing, well established sporting excellent centres. Not to mention the Klitchsko effect, as lots of Russian, Ukranian and Kazakh boys grow up wanting to emulate their heroes.

interesting posts james & crusader. i do know that india has a couple of decent super middles and that in south asia loads of cubans ply their trade as national squad coaches.

It wouldnt be too far fetched if some of these indians began to turn pro and moved to the west to do so. They are typically middleweights and as pros could move up to light heavy.

china had no pedigree in long distance running or athletics and suddenly caused major waves at the world championships and olympics one year.

As you guys know often it is one major boxer emerges that opens the floodgates like naz hamed ushering in an era of huge amounts of asians in the amateurs one of who was amir khan. Sure the rise of asians has been slow in this country.


Mexico i truly beleive its a matter of time, and an asian country like the phillipines i think as u suggested a longer time frame of say 15 years but im convinced itll happen in some unlikely country.....a great hw emerging whether thats india or japan or mexico.........we shall see

I said the next great HW could be from a previously unlikely place for HW's such as Mexico , Japan or the Phillipines. Clearly your the kind of small minded person who still thinks all orientals are 5ft 1 and wear straw hats and nod their heads at each other all the time......pacman is a 147lb phenom at Welterweight. Its not inconceivable we could see a Japanese HW hit the scene, they have enough huge wrestlers and MMA fighters. I wasnt getting "excited about a fight that happened a month ago" I asked if anyone was watching it, and accidentally put "live" due to the premier tv typo.
