Very underrated fighter.

Good boxing skills and impressive punching power.

Loses to Larry Holmes(TKO11), Mike Tyson(TKO4) & Vitali Klitshko(UD12).

Could win and lose against Evander Holyfield (either L12 Dec or W TKO8) & Lennox Lewis (L12 Dec or KO6).

Would win against David Haye (TKO8).

I have to say (sorry Ray), in my opinion, Lyle did tend to tire but that didn't mean he was any less dangerous, just less active.

You need to get that checked out. It could be more serious than Ron Lyle syndrome.

Out of curiosity, why is David Haye on the list?

Haye comes nowhere close to the others in terms of stature & legacy & although he held a version of the heavyweight championship, he has never & will probably never be the best heavyweight in the world.

For the record, I see Tyson knocking out Lyle; I see Lennox Lewis stopping him late on; I see Vitali outpointing him; I see Holyfield winning by TKO, with the ref stepping in to save Lyle & I see Lyle being too physically strong for Haye & possibly stopping him late on.

I agree that it's likely that Holyfield-Lyle would turn to a slugging match, but I still think this would be a foolish ploy for Holyfield. His heart and chin would very likely see him through, but it would be a very risky strategy against a big puncher such as Lyle. The same strategy lost him the fight against Bowe - watch the first fight again and you'll see that Holyfield had the most success when using his speed and boxing skills and the least success when slugging it out. I believe it would be the same against Lyle - who while not as big as Bowe was still bigger than Holyfield and a much bigger puncher.

Holyfield might have beaten Lyle in a slugfest, but it would be no guarantee.

I never argued it wouldn't be his best strategy to box him. It's just highly unlikely that is going to happen. Either way, Evander will win. I have no doubt he would have some rough spots along the way before Ron gassed and he took him out. As for Lyle being a much bigger puncher than Holyfield, I'll disagree with that.

Oh, cmon Saad. I actually agree with most of your points in this thread, but you drastically over-rate your mans punch with that last line. Lyle lands punch after punch after punch after punch the way Holyfield did vs. Foreman, Cooper & co. & the results are miles different.

Holyfield simply did not have a HW punch. It was at best marginlly above average. At best.

Well, I do think Holy had a HW punch, just not in the same league as Lyle. Lyle put George nearly out at the end of, I think, the 3rd round with a single left hook counter. Lyle's power was similar to a Foreman/Shavers, it's just that sometimes he lacked the confidence or will to utilize that power.

He was a way bigger puncher than Holyfield. I cant believe that would ever be in dispute.

Holyfield not having a Heavyweight punch is one of the more preposterous things I've ever read. I don't disagree that Lyle hit harder. It was the much part that I would contest.
