Went on a real tough run throughout the ABA's, losing to Mark Heffron in the quarter finals. Tough kid, showed lots of guts throughout that tournament as he was pitched in tough fights, some with only a few days in between. Poor matchmaking from ihis amateur club put him in with the bigger and more experienced Ryan Aston who dropped him in the first round, gave him a standing count and when on to collect a unanimous points decision.
If matched correctly, he'd do alright. Especially at lightweight.

Did you see their amateur fight jonp? Was a midland semifinal in the 2008 ABA's. Glover won it, but it was a cracker.

Lovely little boxer, though can get dragged into brawls. he got a bit of a beating off Michael Maguire as a junior, but they boxed again as seniors and Wood pushed him all the way to a majority or split decision I think. Thought he beat Lee Glover in a stormer, but Glover got the verdict.
Think he'll do well as a pro. I'll be following him.

Stocky heavy hitting light welter from the Aston area.Always in great shape and heavier handed than his record gives him credit for.A recent loss will show if he has the mettle to come back and be better.

Jahmaine Smyle
Chris Pyatt trained super middle.Very Strong and determined can also realy whack.Seems to have learnt from early defeat and was very impressive in PF comp.
Impresses me most is his will to win.
What needs work;Might be little too muscle bound.
Calum Cooper
Southpaw from birmingham getting ready for debut in September. Busy aggresive and tough.Boxed at much higher weight in ams and reached aba semi losing on countback to Mark Heffron.
Impresses me most is his workrate.
Whats needs work;Likes too row too much.
Chris Male
Very Fit Super bantam from the black country.Not a massive hitter but busy and very fit.
Impresses me most is his fitness and training regime.
What needs work;Might lack power.
Ty Mitchell
Cliftons son a tall tricky southpaw, only seen him sparring but was impressed with what i saw.
Impresses me most is his footwork
What needs work keep hands up.
Troy James
Hard hitting feather from coventry. Aggresive and strong would be a dream match him against glover.
Most impresses me Physical strength.
Needs work can rely on power too much.
Just a bit of fun feel free to post your areas upcoming prospects.
Your opinion mate,some of them have lost or been knocked out, these must be either your friends fighters or your own fighters, the best prospect on there is Ryan Aston, if this is the best you can come up with for the midlands, the midlands better forget it.
Alright Nige only one is one of our fighters the rest are just lads i like the look of and think will do well.

I helped my brother frank in mcphilbins corner alongside Carl Greaves. I thought shane was great & showed a lot of Bollocks for a lad so inexperienced. In the changing room before sprott, he was cool as a cucumber. I think he could easily come down a weight or two & really do well. My fight with Truman is on YouTube, I think he needs to think more of what he's doing. As he ain't that powerfull. That's not a dig

Id figured if he was good it would probably be Phoenix. I think reputation wise, its one of the best. Benny's and Billborough also have good reps but a long way to go to get anywhere near phoenix rep. Jawaid Khaliq's gym is to young to even be considered.

I've never been to Phoenix boxing club and may try coming down one day. I train at jav's. I don't personally like the style of boxing out of billborough. Very basic in my opinion. Kk's trainer has a bit of an ego to so not a fan. Not heard much about st George, does Paul Linley coach there? Radford boys had a good rep before too

Well I have ray ricketts at bilborough is one of the best coaches out there and feeling nice guy as well. Don't know where Paul coaches now he left us a couple of months ago. Do u box or coach ?

I am Nige, Jon but seen as you want my opinion, I will give it :
Lee Glover : Good lad, beat Troy James in the ams, but I feel Troy is the better pro at the moment, I took Rizza to spar with Lee in Wednesbury and Rizza out boxed him, Rizza was slightly heavier at the time, but with such a good am career, I was suprised, but he has done well in his pro career to date and he is a big ticket seller, so I can see him winning some titles in the future.
Ryan Aston : Made for the Pros, very fast for a big guy, good reflexes, Gb made him lose too much weight, took away his strength and punch resistance, at middle will be a force and has a good trainer behind him, along with backing of Haymaker, only downsides are his hands are low and he takes a few shots, but one of the best new prospects in the country.
Tommy Gwent : Same Trainer and Promoter as Aston, sparred with Groves and held his own before the degale fight along with Ryan Aston, the difference is Gwent is just a welter, He spars with Nas regular and is so good for a guy who has not fought in the pros yet, had a great Am career, Good skills, punching power and one of the toughest kids around, will go very far, only downside likes to trade a bit too much at times.
Troy James : A strong solid fighter, spars a lot with much heavier guys without problems, very tough, good chin, can be very explosive, Barry mcguigan signed him up, so a lot of talent there, been a bit inactive at times, maybe a rematch with Lee in the future for a title who knows ? Can become a really good pro and go on to big things, downside, needs to work more be busier, tends to lose focas at times, but when he is on it, he is on it.
On the face of it all the best prospects are from up north or down south, a poor state of affairs in the midlands, but I suppose lack of promotions ect does not help.

Forgot about Tommy Ghent good call.
I think your right about lack of promotions affecting prospects in this neck of the woods.Hopefully Hayemaker and Dave Coldwell doing shows to support Aston and Ghent will provide the oppotunity for local fighters to get going.
Either that or we have to wait for Gavin to be headlining shows to get some bigger cards on around here.

Ive recently spoke to 2 lads who have started coming down to our gym (honestly dont know thir names but only young , maybe 18 ish) and they left pheonix cos they said its full of kids just running round doing what they want nowdays, sure its the best known gym in nottingham but i get the impression that for adults its far from the best , although i agree im hearing good things about bilborough as of late , when i say our gym its not literally mine , i just go and help out as ve got a few lads that train there , just wanted to clear that up

would love too at some point but at the moment the other half has a bit of post natal depression so i only go gym tuesday and thursdays for the time being , will eventually be able to get more spare time but having to cook , clean and look after kids at the moment , if i can get away for a bit ill nip in but i really cant promise at this time .

Am a coach at st geogre. i used to fight at super-heavy but not good enough really. This is my first seasion as a coach so really looking forward to it. You will have to pop up.

Ah, Do you do padwork? I could do with some. Jav cant do it because he has a bad elbow. After the fight in harvey hadden i made it to welsh under 10 bout final and lost narrowly. how was your amateur career then? Did you train out of Phoenix?
