There are an awful lot of pro athletes in contact sports that are suffering the after-effects of concussion and the whole thing is being put under the microscope. Fighters like Williams need to be retired for their own good, eh?

Anyone seen the new documentary "After the Last Round", of which a large part is focused on pugilistica dementia?

The worrying thing is that it sets in some years after the physical damage was done and can't be detected by current brain scans until it becomes symptomatic - at which point it's too late.

It's a shame, as mentioned on here before, that there isn't a BFA like the PFA in football. Not only to provide monetary support n extreme cases, but to also provide verbal advice in cases like this. Danny is still better than most lads out there, but he's inevitably heading for a fall. The buzz of training someone may be his only escape.

1st post i see is that Danny Williams is fighting again.

Ill just go and get my big book of Danny Williams jokes (2001-2007) out of storage and we can pick up where we left off.

I wonder how much Danny Williams is getting paid for this? Surely it can't be much. Alfred Cole has only won once in eight years. and is 47 years old. And it's a 6x2, surely even if he is flying there with easyjet he's going to lose money.

The BUI are a reputable organisation. Couldn't see president Mel Christle, a former heavyweight himself no less, sanctioning that fight.

Oh and Fury's next fight on Sept 17 is in Belfast so it's under the BBBofC.

If Williams is set on fighting, he should pursue a fight with Sprott. As long as Sprott still wants fight after Dimitrenko on the 24th, that would be interesting. Williams and Sprott have some unfinished business.

He can't get licensed in the UK though, hence the Latvian license. They would have to fight a abroad which would make no sense.

He can't get licensed, or he just chose not to renew? I thought it was the latter. If the BBBC rejected him, what were the official grounds?

From how I perceived a Danny Williams interview on youtube (it was Eric Guy who filmed it).... Danny lost his licence after he announced his retirement. The Board sort of said that it wouldn't be straight forward for him to get it back - so Danny chose to go the latvian path.

A little worrying that Danny didn't fight more to get his licence back, or didn't wish to do the battery of tests.

They didn't officially deny him the license as such. Instead they asked him not to put them in the position of having to do so. Sp they didn't give any specific grounds. No doubt they would have given some had he actually applied to renew it. That's the impression I got from the reports in the papers at the time anyway.

If it stops him going stark raving bonkers, earns him £10k every two months, and he's not in harms way............

I largely agree, but I don't think refusing to license someone is always protecting them from themselves. Surely it partly the regulatory body protecting themselves from being liable.

Also there are some cases where it's not always just about the boxer. Bowe cited brain damage from his boxing career as the reason he kidnapped his wife and child then he still got licensed when he got out.

But as far as Williams goes if he can keep making money and he's enjoying himself then good luck to him. He has been in some tough fights over the years tho so hopefully he has had some sort of proper medical check-up.

Did anybody see this fight? Jesus, Danny could only manage a split decision over a shot 50 year old Cole! Awful.

Very depressing to see Danny fight on, the Tyson fight was thrilling but he should of retired after the Harrison loss. Where else did he have to go? The KO loss to Sosnowski was curtains, he had nothing left.

He´s going to fight with Leif Larsen in Castellon -Spain. I think Williams could win easily.

Larson is big and slow

it will be another case of some lug wailing away at Danny until he either gasses or danny is knocked out or stopped.

I see Danny Williams story ending in tragedy Im afraid, the fact that he doesnt even want to pursue and license here is very worrying indeed, perhaps he doubts himself whether he would pass the medicals. I cant understand the people who are working with him and allowing him to fight on. Danny needs to look at what has happened to Howard Clarke and countless other fighters who fought on after their skills had diminished. Please quit Danny.
