I predict a tough, bruising encounter. Both men will know they have been in a fight.I can't decide who I think will win. I sometimes think that Ward might be too slick, but then I quickly think that Froch has it in him to really take control of the fight.I am looking forward to it.

The ease with which Ward beat Kessler has me rather concerned for Froch, he made Kessler look very ordinary indeed. Kessler and Froch for me are similar beasts, both are big, rangy and powerful with good chins and decent output.

, except that Kessler is more upright and a better technical boxer. Froch a little more unorhodox.
Agree witht the Magee quote but as you said he did clock him :TU:
As he did with Taylor too so here's hoping :DDD

Magee was about 5 years ago, and Froch snapped his thumb in the second round. We drove down to NHS direct on the Sat morning and it was like a football. He got in pinned during the week after the fight.

With regards the Kessler win, god the headbutts were nasty. Very nasty.

Kessler's one of the nicest fellas in boxing, so when he declare's Ward was intentionally headbutting and holding him, combined with the footage - then you can't give Ward plaudits for that.

I am glad that you wrote that. I have long thought that the headbuts were terrible from Ward in that fight. He was cheating, pure and simple.I also think Kessler did not know what to expect from Ward and Froch will. I hope he dusts him off.

I'm taking Ward in this one, probably by UD.

I think Froch's best chance of hurting him will be to catch him with a short uppercut when he follows in with his head after throwing the right hand. He does that a lot and it leaves him very exposed.

i think ward will win on points, ward a quicker fighter all round and a decent puncher if not concusive, and when you look at the taylor and dirrel fights (i know he won them) he did struggle with there movement, and i do think froch needs to tighten up defencivley, but if froch puts the presure on and gets ward in a tough physical fight get him going backwords then he could do some damage late on and he certanly can punch. but having said that i see it being like the taylor fight without the late stoppage for carl..hope he wins though, would be great for brittish boxing..

Ward will win this one on points. Froch is just to one dimensional and reverts to type when an opponent steps it up. He looked good against Abraham - but he'll always look good against a plodder. Against a mover with handspeed he is going to struggle and risks looking clumsy like he did at times versus Dirrel.

I accept that Dirrel probably has better footspeed than Ward but Ward has more heart and desire.

Froch was getting tagged by the right hand quite easily at times by the 42 year old Glen Johnson, I dread to think how many rights Ward will land.

I like Froch, I really do, but he gets hit too much and doesn't carry the dig he thinks he does. Ward is by no means without flaws but he is better than Froch.

Unfortunately i agree with that, my heart says Froch - head says Ward

I really really hope he does it though, still exciting to watch him majority of the time

Could not agree more, it's a crime that Ward gets to stay in the US and gets away with this stuff.

I hope that Froch sticks his head right in his eye socket if he tries that shit.

I actually think that this will be another big points win for Carl. Ward is good but I think he's been a tad overrated.
It'll be a great fight and certainly Carl will give him everything he's got as usual.

I have no idea how it's going to go. The common opponent, Kessler, having watched the fight again recently I thought Froch lost that just by fighting like a nutter, neglecting defence and throwing wild punches. He almost fell over at one point he looked so off balance. Still, fighting badly he had Kessler rocked and put him out of action for a while. He put him out of the tournament anyway. I thought the scoring was bullsh*t. It didn't reflect how close a fight it was.

Again, I thought Ward got all he could handle with Sakio Bika and it was close. Carl Froch is a better fighter than Sakio. Also, like others are saying, Ward went to points with Green, Johnson KO'd Green, and Froch beat Johnson. I know you shouldn't read too much into that, but you can't help but read something.

I know everyone's picking Ward, but then almost everybody picked Abraham to beat Froch too. I had Carl to win that one, I'm pleased to say, but I'm having trouble seeing Carl beating Ward. I absolutely hope I'm wrong.

I'm struggling to find a way froch beats him unless he gets the KO.

Hope he does it though... I think Ward is a bit special. His punches are so short and accurate.

The headbuts were bad from Ward when he beat Kessler, but Kessler was poor in any event and if he ever gets a rematch will get beat again. Like Froch, I just don't think either are quite good enough to beat Ward...especially in the US.

What Froch needs to get his around is Ward (like Hopkins) knows what to do, when to do it and how much he can get away with before he has to go on the straight and narrow. I don't see Froch delivering this time.

I would like to see another super 6 in one of other divisions when this is complete. :TU:

I think Froch has too much power for Ward, i honestly do. Its quite obvious that few of us think Froch can out box Ward but thats why we all love boxing. The best boxer doesn't always win and in this instance, i dont think Wardf will win

I think it's an open fight, would love to see Froch win it and i do think he can. Froch has the ability to find a way to win when he needs to, he should have beaten Kessler (not saying he won on the night but he let it go) and i think he'll be right on the money come fight night. There's been too many hype jobs from the states in recent years for me to call Ward an easy winner.

I want the best man to win - and I just hope it is a fair decision with no controvesies. I just want a unified Super Middleweight champion.

And I give Froch a decent shout at pulling off the upset. I don't think Ward has the skill set of Dirrell, he isn't as quick on his feet or hands. What Ward has, that Dirrell hasn't is a mental toughness and ability to fight a different way.

However, Froch looks alot bigger than Ward.... and I think Froch's size has Ward a little concerned. I know Ward has fought as big, if not bigger in Kessler, but there is a certain momentum / confidence in Froch that wasn't in Kessler before the Ward fight.

My "downer" on Froch is I feel people overated him based on performance against Abraham (who had just lost). I started to hear "PPV star" and "top 5 P4P" and I thought "hang on, he only lost to Kessler in his last fight".

For me there shouldn't even be a case of him, AT THIS MOMENT, being ranked above Kessler or Ward at the weight.... Bute, more of an arguement there.

froch has a far better resume.

To be fair how many people were saying PPV star and top5 P4P. I'd be amazed if one of the 'regulars' in here were saying that at all, admittedly I was under the water when the fight took place so I did miss the aftermath, but I will be suprised if more than 5 people said that and those people will probably be the reaction merchants over in the Current scene. You've had a downer on Froch that goes way back before the Abraham fight that's for sure so I don't buy it that your 'downer' on him is the reaction/over-reaction after the Abraham fight, you definately have more of a downer on him than just that.

Depends on your definition on "regular" I guess, but it was over here and the current scene. We got a lot of posters from Nottingham way who support him quite a lot. Nowt wrong with that.

apophenic is one such poster I have had discussions about Froch about.... good constructive discussions I might add.

I guess you can say my downer goes back futher than the Abraham fight.... however, its not a personal downer at all.... always been a response to a forum member. Froch was involved in two close fights before the Abraham fight. I'm not in a minority (I wouldn't have thought) in seeing that Froch lost both of these fights.... and my downer stems from there and the "he can do no wrong" viewpoint of a minority of forum members.... entitled to their view (and they put their viewpoints articulately), as I am mine.... doesn't mean I don't want him to win against Ward - I am looking forward to the fight.

I just disagree with some forum members on a few things Froch related.

1) Dirrell fight.
2) Kessler fight (I agree with the judges).
3) Overinflating of the Abraham fight.... GREAT GREAT Performance, but signfies a #1 Super Middleweight ranking? Not in my book, especially after Ward did a similar job.
4) I give Hennessy more dues than most in getting on the Super 6, getting a US profile, and especially getting him a second chance at the full WBC title - I did think the timing of the promotion change and his attitude about Mick "Mick was always just my representative, I've never been promoted" wasn't that nice - but yet, the majority seemed to hail this attitude and were saying "about time to".... this off course happened after the Abraham fight.

I guess when some of us don't hail our #1 fighter we are seen as having some personal jelous vendetta... I used to think the same of people continuing to champion Witter vs Hatton.

Regrettably yes. As much im a fan of Froch's toughness and durability his slowness of foot (imo) is simply gonna allow Ward to steal the initiative and take a clear unamious points decision. I very much hope im wrong though.
