i believe he was heavyweight as an amateur (not the same as the pros remember), but it doesent matter, his a natural cruiser if you ask me but then so is cleverly, i dont think he would be campaigning at light heavy if he dident feel strong !

Cleverly started as a pro at 152lbs. He is a natural Lt Heavy. Bellew is a natural cruiser- a 14st 4lbs cruiser.

As for being the number 2 Light Heavyweight in Britain, thats like saying your the number 2 Ski Jumper in Britain behind Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards. It's one of the worst divisions domestically we have and beating a Journeyman(even one having his indian summer) like Ovil McKenzie twice dosn't give you the right to challenge for a world Title.
At least Cleverley beat a dangerous unbeaten fighter in Karo Murat to become the interim champion and was going to fight the champion too before he was rightly stripped.
Murats opposition has been poor he hasnt beaten anyone world class as far as im aware. Its not clevs fault he didnt get to fight a genuine title holder but the fact remains he hasnt yet proved himself a geniune world champ and Bellew is british tile holder, common wealth champion, number 2 in the Uk and in the top 15 in the world thats more deserving than alot of fighters that have had a crack at a title in recent times. What domestic match up would you rather see in the LHW division.
Well first your wrong about Karo Murats opposition as he has beaten some decent Light Heavyweights like ex world champions Cristian Sanavia and Gabriel Campillo.
Bellew winning the commonwealth belt was pretty meaningless due to the opponent and even winning the British title has to be set against a pretty average set of british Light Heavyweights at the moment apart from Nathan Cleverley.
Nathan Cleverley is a World champion so needs to fight world class opposition not domestic opposition unless they were world class too which no other British fighter currently is and don't make me laugh that Bellew is in the Top 15 in the WBO rankings, we all know that organisation is a joke and in Warrens pocket.
I would much rather Bellew got another years experience under his belt fighting some good domestic fights with the likes of Tony Quigley and Tony Dodson which would both do well in Liverpool plus Tony Jeffries too and then maybe face a world class guy like Chris Henry, Yordanis Despaigne or Adrian Diaconu and then fight Cleverley as he'll be the better for it as despite some of the negatives i've brought up i do think he could become a world class contender if he isn't rushed too quickly and allowed another year to develop and become a more complete Boxer-puncher which his new trainers seem to want him to be.
Its thinking like that which is why boxing is struggling, when big domestic names dont face each other thats when the national supporters switch off. Sanavia - dont make me laugh the guy was title holder for 1 fight in another division and campilio is realistically European level.
What you are saying is Bellew hasnt fought classy enough opposition but if he spends another year fighting guys like Quigley and Dodson, for what? and then fights a "world class" fighter like - Yordanis Despaigne (who's a novice), when did he become world class? OR Chris Henry who is arguably more dangerous than Clev. Diaconu will probably be retired if he hasnt already. What did you do put all the names in the LHW division in a hat and pick a few out.
If clev had been in the mix with world class fighters already, it would be a bad fight to make imo but he hasnt so fighting the biggest domestic rival makes sense.

Tbh I don't really understand your point, you were first stating that bellow was a heavy as an amateur and that cleverly started the pros at 152 ? And what ? There both fighting at light heavy there both happy at the weight, you started the discussion about weights not me.

Thanks for all the support people, I just wanna add this, I don't claim to be the best 175lbs fighter in the world right now, I'm a level headed person who knows what I'm capable of!
This is a domestic match with a world title thrown in! I will also add this, I'm the best fighter and most dangerous fighter Cleverly has faced so far and it's vice versa too! I've not shown anywhere near my best yet and take out the serious knockdown in McKenzie first fight then hand on heart I've barely lost a round.
I am not coming for a payday like a lot of Clevs previous guys and I will not back Down when under fire either!! Come the 15th October everyone is gonna see that. I just hope all the people who are doubting me hold there hands up.. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I respect them but people telling me I'm not in his league are nuts, tell me this, honestly too, am I better than Najib Mohammed?? A guy who gave him hell on 24 hrs notice! Also do I hit harder than Joey Vegas and Kuzemski?? Both had him in trouble, the latter had him really going!
That's enough from me people, thanks so much again for all your support it means a lot and I can't thank you all enough

I'm picking Cleverly to completely outbox Tony, everyone keeps banging on about Bomber's power but while Clev isn't the most elusive fighter in the world, Tony doesn't seem to be the most accurate or clever puncher, his last few fights his punches have looked incredibly predictable, and for someone with Cleverly's speed he should be able to avoid the telegraphed bombs and counter nicely with 3 or 4 punch combinations.
Yes Tony has the edge in power, but he's been put over by far less superior fighters recently, and while he seems to have remarkable recovery powers, Cleverly could possibly score 10-8 rounds all night.
I like both guys and don't really mind who wins as I believe it won't be the end for either, and I agree that Tony posting on here does bring a lot of bias his way, just reading some of the comments above proves this, why anyone would want Cleverly to have his clocked cleaned is beyond me, he's hardly the most annoying or arrogant of people and can't see how he has rubbed anyone up the wrong way (Bomber aside).

I love this image of Cleverley as a skilled boxer, like somehow his last 8 wins or whatever haven't come with him steaming forward, throwing 80-odd punches a round, and getting hit repeatedly in the face in the process.

mm, indeed. people also seem to equate 'tall lanky dude with quick hands' with 'boxer'.
to me he's just a slightly more aesthetically-pleasing and athletic, 175lb Kelly Pavlik. tall pressure fighter. talk of his skills bewilders me. he never throws a feckin jab, and looks to overwhelm people with volume punching, for godsakes.

Win-win situation for Tony.
If he wins, which I sincerely hope the lad does, then he's world champion.
If he loses, hopefully we can see the lad campaigning at cruiserweight where I feel he'd make the bigger noise.
I can't pick this fight but am gunning for a Bomber win. Hopefully the last couple of performances by the bitter blue have given Clev a false sense of security and on the night the power proves significant.

@nigel, You are referring to the phenomenon of the 'boxrec bounce' and you would usually be right but in this case I don't think people's views are clouded
Those who think Bellew will win are those that see a half decent puncher who should be bale to find the poorly defended chin of Cleverley that is not made of Iron. Don't forget, he got buzzed - albeit briefly - by that Polish Tap Dancer in the 3rd round of the last fight. He can be caught
For me though, he will overwhelm Tony and stop him in/around Round 6
