Eastman now fighting a Russian - Have you heard of him....?
Eastman needs to go to the US and so a number on Robert Allen, Taylor or another US "face" to get noticed
Fighting an "unknown" guy( to the Americans) in front of 300 people in Dagenham isn't going to set the world alight in Hopkins camp or amongst the US fight fan who will be expected to finance the fight (IMO it won't happen over here at this time)..
The lethargic showing versus Joppy won't help his cause either...
Go to the US and get under his (Hopkins')skin..It's the only way.
Fight a TOP RANKED American and say "I'm European number 1 and just spanked your top contender..wassup Hopkins?"
At Eastman's age this is the only possible way surely.
The main reason being that Hopkins has other fish to fry...namely, ODLH, Trinidad, Mayorga...
Something needs to be done asap otherwise Eastman will need to consider his options regarding how his career is progressing....if his ambitions tell him to.
Or will the miracle happen...Eastman waits another year and finally gets his mandatory shot???
Thoughts?

Good post DOG (and I've long been a fan of your posts on the Fight World forum). I agree Eastman is practically invisible. He needs to relinquish his European title (the Yanks must laugh when they hear who he's been fighting) and concentrate solely on a showdown with Hopkins. It's the only way.DOG wrote:Eastman needs to go to the US and so a number on Robert Allen, Taylor or another US "face" to get noticed

The question is though, can he beat Allen and Taylor? I don't think he can, Allen is one of the few fighters who gave Hopkins a fight and for that reason alone is at least as worthy of this title shot than Howard. I seriously do believe that Jermain Taylor is a young man that we'll be talking about for years to come and I fully expect him to take over from Hopkins, and also win some super middle honours.DOG wrote:Eastman needs to go to the US and so a number on Robert Allen, Taylor or another US "face" to get noticed

But as Bennie said that was an excellent post and Eastman does need to do this, not necessarily with Allen or Taylor, but there are other options. Despite what has been said about the devision, there are some very capable fighters out there who would make a perfect "bridge" between the Cherifi's off this world and Hopkins. What about Keith Holmes, Aaron Mitchell and Aaron Davis.
The fault the McGuigan pointed out (quite rightly) after that McCraken in the comfort of London being your hardest fight was no-preperation for a world title. McGuigan suggested that he needed to go to America and fight the condentors (i.e. Pazienza at the time etc). It looks like (if Eastman gets his shot) that lightening will strike twice, cause he hasn't listened to a man who is more than qualified in telling you what not to do prior to a world title fight.
I agree with this assessment of Eastman. I would take it a step further and go as far as to say I think it's already too late for him and feel the next 'live' opponent he faces beats him, even if it's just a case of him plodding after someone while they nick the fight on points.stujones wrote: The question is though, can he beat Allen and Taylor? Eastman's lethargic style seems to have been compounded as time has gone on, when it's against a shot Cherifi then you can call it superb 'shot picking', when it's against a genuine top 5 Middleweight I think you will able to call it 'losing every round'.
I also have my doubts and think that maybe Eastman has missed the boat (Re Joppy and the problems with Don King and the inactivity straight after that).stujones wrote:The question is though, can he beat Allen and Taylor? I like your other choices too...but the fact remains that this will need to be done in the US...Otherwise any promotion in this country will need to be seriously sponsored by a major network, and/or a huge backer.. Eastman still isn't that well known amongst the general British fan base of this country.
But network/promotions and how theyor help hinder Eastman?...that is another arguement :(

Its the same old story, Eastman will cruise to yet another easy victory against this guy without breaking sweat, strut around for a while, then sit down for his interview & tell everyone that the great Bernard Hopkins is running scared of him
As McCoy has always said, its a sad day when your best win is against your damn trainer!

Yes it will work with your firewall, use passive transfers. One of the options in Coffeecup FTP
download from here (click)
As for Joval, yes he is in the USA from what I read in the newspaper to prepare for his bout against Angel Hernandez.
I'll be at the Amsterdam card this weekend, I'll try to get some info there.
