Katsidis-Burns is good bout, but it doesn't change the fact that Burns was steered clear of a very risky situation for a less risky situation. Good work by Fwank.

He has been in some wars. It's gonna affect his resilience eventually but he's proved that he can compete with the best and he's still a very dangerous fighter.

Great match up for Ricky, what a fight!

As I said in the previous thread, Ricky wants the big fights and I am pretty sure he would be furious if he was told to move up a weight to avoid an opponent. Boxing is a dangerous sport and if Ricky was struggling to make weight then he has to put his health first and move up. No point trying to take on the best in the world if you are seriously dehydrated and in danger of being hurt. Far better decision to move up, providing you still go after the best fights.

I like Ricky but i fancy Katsidis in this one. He will at some point catch Burns with a big punch and i dont think he can take it.

Work rate and speed will go to burns, but a higher weight and in with a big punchers, tough night for him

I remember when Mitchell fought Katsidis people were saying beforehand that Kev was catching him at the right time. Katsidis has had some wars but they were against some fairly heavy hitters which Burns definitely isn't. Katsidis doesn't look like he's slowed down too much either, if he can catch JMM he can catch Burns who may not have the skills to get out of trouble. Plus, Katsidis loves fighting over here! :TU:

Katsidis has only lost to top, top clas fighters, and it has always come by way of knockout.

Can anybody invisage Burns knocking out the Aussie? I certainly cant unless draining took away 83% of his power.

I take your point about Burn's relative lack of power, but Katsidis has only been stopped in two of his four defeats.

Any wear & tear won't be evident against someone like Burns. Katsidis gave Juan Manuel Marquez a very, very tough fight less than a year ago and Katsidis is a massive lightweight. I don't see Burns winning.

Burns has the speed, variety and movement to win. Dont forget Burns has an outstanding chin which will be an important factor in this fight.

joehanssan tore him apart,so what will this guy do,i like ricky but he has not been in a ring with a guy like this, constant pressure for 12 rounds, the aussie will knock ricky out about round 9,ricky will run out of steam ,he will wear ricky down then knock him out,i think he had a better chance to beat bronner

burns proved he can tough it out from his war with martinez.hes a much improved fighter since his last loss to carl johannsen in 2007.he has great heart and fitness and he may be alot stronger at lightweight.katsidis will give him one hell of a test in many departments but i believe he can beat him.

Burns has improved massively since the Johanson fight

hes planting his feet more when he punches and working the body alot more

he used to just pretty much jab and when inclose wait for the break

Burns is far superior fighter to the one who fough Johanson

Katsidas is a great little fighter though and i like him , this should be a great night

he's shown a good chin against superfeatherweights.... not sure about what he'll do against a puncher at 135

He just getting KOd for more money. He had no shot at winning either.

Ballsy for any man to get into the ring with either though, we must all admit.
I remember the same things being said before the Martinez fight too, I predicted he'd outwork him, I think he'll go through a hard first 4 rounds then I see him taking over and winning on points.. Ricky Burns is a proper World Champion!

but Katsidis is a guy who splattered Kevin Mitchell all over the shop, who knocked JMM down as heavily as could possibly be, and who hung with Casamayor in a war....
meanwhile, Martinez stopped.... Nicky Cook?

i think in burns favour in the past is that hes actually been decked by the punches so can take a count and get back up

Alex Arthur was tremendous puncher back then , Johannson could whack too

Mitchell was caught on ropes and ref had no option but to stop

lets hope same thing doesnt happen to burns
He will certainly be made to work very hard iof hes to come through this.

cant wait for this one , not actually that far away now :bag:

This is definately a hard one to predict, One thing i think everyone would agree on is that Burns is very very unlikely to stop Katsidis, we all know just how tough Katsidis is. I reckon Burns hits harder than people give him credit for and moving up a weight should allow him to increase his punch power but id be surprised if he can hurt katsidis enough to stop him walking forward as the man is a machine.

If the Burns team come up with the right game plan then i can see him winning this convincingly on points but if he trys a similar plan to that of the Martinez fight then i think this could be an early night for him. Katsidis is more clinical than Martinez and if Burns sags on the ropes covering up i think Katsidis would find the right punches that Martinez was too raw to find. (No credit away from Martinez) Burns was outstanding that night against Martinez but there was a few times when he looked vulnerable and his legs had gone at times aswell which is only natural in such a hard fought contest. Katsidis could finish him if he gets him into that position, which is why he needs to adopt a different game plan.

I hope people havent looked at Katsidis and thought he's just a bigger Martinez!

Anyway, my prediction is Burns on points after surviving a few scares and this time they will need even louder speakers in the Kelvin hall for anyone to hear it when they say.......AND THE NEW.........................

Flights and hotel booked for this one - I'd love to see Katsidis beat and understand that Kevin Mitchell would be on the Undercard.

Just hope it all gets confirmed otherwise the missus is having a romantic weekend in . . . Glasgow, hardly Paris is it 8)
