I must admit I'm thankful that Merchant is not on British t.v. The guy just rambles on and loves the sound of his own voice.

As Bunce said, he takes ages to get a question out, bumbles and mumbles and looks and sounds disinterested. Floyd was a dick as Merchant does know his stuff BUT he does disrespect fighters.

Floyd did not cheat, the ref called box on, he was fighting hard and smacking him round and still no respect.

Haters hate huh.
At no point did Cortez say "Box on".

He said "Let's go".
But he did signal with his hands before looking away - imo its a case of cortez not doing his job properly yet again. Boxing signals are clear and decisive for a reason, how can a supposed world class ref leave it open to interpretation? I thought PBF was within his rights to box on.

Larry was dead on in not taking any of Mayweather's sh*t.

As bad as Ortiz putting his nut in was, you can sort of empathise as it was a split second reaction born out of frustration.

Mayweather's response was calculated. That's the difference for me. Ortiz did something very stupid in the heat of the moment and Mayweather did something much worse, and did so with a cool head. Scratch cool, cold blooded's more apt. He showed an ugly side to his character tonight, or this morning I should say.

You can repeat the mantra about a fighter defending themselves at all times but whichever way you cut it, it was a sucker punch, 2 sucker punches. That's a cardninal sin imo.

Jon, Ortiz hadn't won a round though and didn't look like winning one, he wasn't doing great, he wasn't doing anything. Before the strange ending it was looking like it was going to be a lop-sided 12 rounds to nil. I just hope they don't have a rematch because of the ending

I felt he was getting closer and that he was saving gas for the later rounds.

The thing is it was technically legal, not sportsmanlike but legal. It won't bother Mayweather how he wins - He's said plenty of times he doesn't love boxing it's his job. I think he likes being the villian aswell, probably quite enjoys the way he won this farce.

I don't like Merchant and to be fair i don't like fighters being interviewed in-depth after a fight. People like Merchant have right up until they speak to the fighters to think through their awkward questions, watch replays and do whatever else they want. In that time, the fighters are psyching themselves up to fight, figuring out how to beat an opponent and are then pumped on adrenaline when a guy in a suit tries to ask awkward questions to make them look stupid.

If you want a fighter to answer questions like that then ask them in the press conference

"Gentlemen I want a good clean fight, protect yourself at all times, good luck."

Nowhere in that statement does it say "Wait for the other guy after the ref signals to continue."

I'm not a Mayweather fan, because of his trash talking, but PBF did nothing wrong.

Completely agree. Just seen it and Ortiz had already apologized 3 times, he should have been ready to fight on not taking in the atmosphere. Mayweather saw the opening and took it, correctly in my opinion

Yep. What happens if Ortiz just kept on 'not being ready' for another minute? Of course3 PBF was right.

On the other hand what ortiz did was illegal and what floyd did was legal. If a guy headbutted me in the face i'd hand him his arse at the earliest opportunity too.

As an employer, you surely can't let Larry get away with saying he would "kick your ass". Especially when the person he said it to is the guy that made people pay their hard earned money to watch the fight.

He must have somnething on HBO for them to keep his senile ass.
Fair enough, you clearly dont like Merchant, but where exactly did he go wrong during this interview that caused Floyd to fly of the handle? Clearly you see something that i'm missing, please enlighten me.

I'm doubtfull that your reply will show any real level of intelligence.

Whether you agree with Mayweather or feel sorry for Ortiz, this farce yet again points out that Joe 'Firm But Fair' Cortez is an abysmal referee and should never officiate a top level bout again. Total joke.

P.s I thought Larry was funny.

How, exactly, does Merchant 'disrespect fighters'? See, this is what I don't understand. Merchant just asks the questions we want asked, and tries to get an answer, as a good interviewer does with a politician. If a fighter doesn't want to answer a tough question, why is it disrespectful to ask him again? I wish there were more like Merchant. Perhaps he's a little more prickly, and less smooth, than perhaps Harry Carpenter would have been, but he's still doing his job in the way I want it done.

Watch the tape and see Mrchants response to floyd saying he dies not get a fair shake.

MERCHANT BECOMES AGGRESSIVE!

Floyd should have shoved the mic up his nappy!
