Yeah its true - however the ring belt is recognised by HBO, us the fans and other boxers so he will still be able to call himself a world champion he just woint be recognised by the sanctioning bodies.

If Barker wins, then does he become "World Champion" and take home a WBC belt ?

Or does he become effectively "regarded" as a world champion by boxing fans - not exactly the same thing, as this would not be recorded in the history books (although should open up doors for Barker).
Effectively he takes the ring belt - the WBC diamon belt (that noone even the chairman of British boxing, the editor of boxing news, adam smith, sky have a clue what it is) its basically a sanctioning scam. He would be recorded as a ring world champion but not as a world champion by the sanctioning bodies.

However as they were saying on ringside people have started to get fed up of the belts so now its about the fights. PBF didnt have a title for ages but we all knew what he was.

Barker will be recognised world number 1 middleweight if he wins.

Slightly off topic, but is Vitali the rings lineal champ?

Ie was he ring champ before his layoff?

now it's wladimir. when vitali was away, wlad #1 beat chagaev #3 (i think), though chagaev was a late replacement.

You don't become lineal champion for ever, otherwise Marciano might still be champ. 'The Ring's lineal champ' isn't a thing. He's not the Ring's champ, he answered you.

I don't believe he was ever the Ring's champ. Lewis was. He lost to Lewis and it wasn't crowned afterwards before he retired as far as I'm aware.

And now holds WBC diamond title. Which i assume is not a real world title but im not actually sure what it is or what it means.
I wonder sometimes what kind of person is even able to follow boxing these days.

Its become like the Department of Administrative affairs.

Try reading your post out loud using the voice of "Sir Humphrey Appleby"

It made me laugh, anyway

To be honest its not the belts that annoy me, most fight fans know who the elite boxers are and just want to see them fight each other, regardless of what strap ends up on the line.

Its all the pissing around that boxers/promoters/sanctioning bodies do to stop the biggest fights happening when the fans want them.

Mayweather Pac is a good example. Would anyone be bothered about the belt on the line? For any of their fights the belt isnt the big picture. These two still havent fought each other, its everything thats wrong with boxing!

the wbc suck mexican fighters cocks.

morales being handed a wbc title shot out of thin air is the biggest joke.

the sanctioning bodies have completely lost any integrity they might have had over the last few yrs.

yeah its madness that they have not fought, sadly tho, one of the fighters involved is very obviously using performance enhancing drugs and if his camp allow proper testing, he will either fail the test or have to fight with a body that looks remarkably different to the one we are used to seeing him fight with.

Its a pretty clear question which wasn't answered in any way. Marciano has nothing to do with it. I can't see how the question is creating such difficulties.

For the record, he was Ring Champ before the layoff. He beat Sanders who was number 2 by way of his smashing of baby brother and with Vitali being number 1, it was a legit box off for the vacant title.

When he retired he relinquished the belt.

It is all quite easy, why all the bickering over it?!

titles don't mean anything - i don't beleive in them

We all know who the best fighters in world are.
Martinez is by far the best middleweight in the world and regarded as one of the best lb for lb, Although if Barker had beaten Daniel Geal (IBF) or Dimitry Pirog (WBO) I would have still recognised as a genuine champ although Martinez without any titles is still the best -

routine defence really in which i hope not but do reckon barker will get KO'd in the later rounds

Now another example is tonites fight WBC Title fight at Super Bantam between Nishioka and Marquez. Now in my view Nishioka is the best of the champions in the weight and so if Rafael wins his a legitimate world champion. Titles are not really importantt nowadays. Real boxing fanss don't need a title to show who's the best fighters are, they can see for them selves - the sanctioning bodies are frauds and money grabbing bastards and really do make a mockery of boxing.

Having to expalin to a non boxing fan who the champion is impossible!!! At the same time we know who the best fighters are at each weight = the ring title is currently the most accurate.
