You could investigate/discuss the role TV has played in boxing, particularly the last 15 years or so i.e. since FW left ITV for SKY. Things have just about gone full circle but there have been a lot of machinations inbetween that - with entire careers being built on SKY alone. Is [was] SKY responsible for enabling crap fights and belts or was the promoter the one leading them around by the nose? Has anything changed? SKY has, for me, got better but it seems the same things are going on, just elsewhere.

Related, but not directly I guess is the rise of the foreign import - Significance of an unbeaten record - Do TV need one to sell a fighter or would we rather see competitive fights and a fighter learning his craft?

Its not so much the lack of bad officiating, it's the lack of the board to do anything about it.

Also are fights in the UK stopped to soon by the ref?

Why is there an increase of nasty confrontations between boxers at press conferences, is it staged? or do the promoters want the boxers to clash to add to the fight gate?

Is it ethical and healthy for the sport for a fighter's manager to also be a promoter?

I think this is an excellent question. As far as I know it's banned in the US under the Mohammed Ali Act. They obviously think it's a problem but seems to be very common over here.

Well - looking back on past posts it boils down to whether journeymen (in order to earn from boxing) are paid to lose/professional losers/whatever euphemism that means the same thing. There are many differing views on this subject but it seems not to have been discussed above forum level.

A lot has already been said, but 1 thing I think could be discussed is -

Has the prestige been lost from being a world champion or just certain bodies? WBA in particular with all its super, regular and interim champs and then even having champs in recess....

Boxing Monthly seems to be a journal which doesn't take sides and is not afraid to say what it thinks .

Last week on Ringside Tris Dixon and Robert Smith discussed the 'alphabet boys '

How easy , or difficut , would it be for BM to start a campaign amongst the other Boxing mags , plus the main TV channels here and in the USA to agree a set of rules ,champions and contenders and then only use these once agreement has been reached . I no longer buy the RING but their system seemed to please me OK . With modern day internet coverage and easy communications ,a monthly forum amongst all the editors should be possible .

Steve, Dalcumly and Brynley, I think we have a theme, thank you! I watched the Ringside piece in question and often found myself emitting an inner 'No!'

1. With the departure of allegedly from Sky, should Sky simply beef up the dates of the existing promoters, bring in a promoter - but who, or should they leave a number of dates open for competitive bids from any promoter and give them to the best cards proposed?

2. Why do we have the same British referees in the top British shows every week, is it not time to deepen the pool of British referees? And what can the BBBoC do to help stamp out poor stoppages, judging, ref scoring etc - overall it has been poor and needs improved, but how?

3. Prizefighter is a really interesting innovation, not everyone's cup of tea but I think it is on the whole very entertaining and removes the notion of 'home fighters', whilst giving many boxers television exposure. What other innovative tournaments or boxing formats would the panel suggest?

My three writers would be Ian McNeilly, Glyn Leach and Graham Houston.

Can we have head cams for judges and referee please.

We can then have replays of "what the judge saw" or "how did the ref miss his glove touching down".

I'm mostly tongue in cheek here but I sometimes wonder.

Technology in the sport or its coverage would be an interesting angle.

I'd love to select ref cam or "no-commentary" sometimes.

Imagine if you could just turn up the atmosphere, here every word in the corners and not be subjected to the mind-altering blurb from commentators.
