Not neccesarily. When Sky were the only game in town, they could completely ignore a big Roy Jones fight, and pretend he didn't even exist. And decide not to show a fight as big as Trinidad/Hopkins, leaving us the viewers with no alternative channel to watch it on.

Those examples are from a decade ago. At the start of this year they were looking like picking up every domestic fight and a good number of foreign ones. Now you have to subcribe to Box ntion and pay for a Primetime fight every couple of months to watch a similar number of fights. I don't think either have yet showed a fight Sky wouldn't have otherwise.

At the start of this year there was a trend to new boxers/fights they might not have had before appearing on Sky. The trend is definitely the other way now. They had a few Pacquiao/Mayweather fights in a row and have seemingly lost both their most recent fights.

That would be plain silly because, bottom line, Sky is very short on star quality fighters. To try and project boxing as 'Sky Boxing' would be, apart from stupid and childish, detrimental to the sport. If the whole sport were to be characterised by the fighters Sky currently has under contract, it wouldn't be very good at all. That's what makes it so surprising that they have let the Mayweather, Pacquiao and Cotto shows slip into other hands - fights like that would have compensated for the quality that Sky's current roster is lacking.

As it stands, the fighters that Sky was projecting as stars and PPV attractions three months ago — Cleverly, DeGale, Groves, Mitchell — now fight on a rival network which is also picking up at least some of the overseas fights that, on past history, viewers might have expected Sky to televise. The picture isn't pretty but there is a way of improving it from Sky's perspective — win the biggest overseas fights. That way they would keep their head above water until the dust has settled and they can come up with a strategy with which to combat the allegedly threat. But that opportunity has slipped away for now and it is to be hoped that Sky's only way of fighting back would not be — whether through their own doing or by somehow influencing the promoters and boxers they have under contract, neither of whom would have another reason to turn down good publicity on a respected and popular show — by adopting a 'siege mentality'. That would be very defeatist and an admission of weakness.

I'm not projecting boxing as Sky boxing, I'm saying we are having to pay more for a similar level of service as the big fights are splitting between channels. As for them adopting a siege mentality, it appears they are blocking certain boxers from appearing on Buncey’s boxing show.

For Sky to project their own roster as boxing per se - and yes, I've already posted on this thread about the Bunce thing hence the siege mentality comment in the first place

I would assume it is Kell Brook. In the news and Eddie Hearn's abuse of the Khans over their Sky fall-out shows which side his bread is buttered

Can't watch this as allegedly have failed to get there channel on virgin even though at the launch they said it be on in a week time. The idea of allegedly good showing more fights but the casual sports fan is not going to buy it.

Q. Why are British refs stopping fights a lot earlier than say US refs, they really are ruining some fights and denying the viewers the opportunity to see if a prospect can finish an opponent. Recent examples of Fury-Firtha and Brook stoppages were very premature and it happens too frequently.

Q. Can we not have more new referees and judges entering the British boxing scene, it is the same refs for most of the televised shows, need some fresh blood brought through, do you agree that the BBBoC should look at this?

It was rough around the edges. But we can put that down to things being put together in a rush I guess.

I did enjoy it though. Very good mix of guys in the studio. Nice touch giving the journeyman a piece of the attention too
Wasn`t so sure about the telephone interview with Bellew though. Tony just seems intent on playing the thug/bad guy all the time. He comes across far too aggressive in his interviews to warm to. :(

From going from saying he would prefer not to give his opinion on the winner of Cleverly v Bellew ... then jumping at the chance to say he`d put his house on Bellew ko-ing Cleverly shortly afterwards

I dunno mate, he has a big fan base on there too...

The ESB mentions on the show are simply explained. I had a kid watching websites for me - he was monitoring six. I set him up with a machine and then the place went crazy with everybody arriving at the same time at 7:30pm - I was in the studio doing a run through...Big Josh x 2, Greaves x 1, Gavin on his own, DeGale x 1...all in one tiny room and the person in charge of getting them coffee, cokes, mars bars etc was my 'website' watcher. He lost all connections on the iPad, he knows nothing about sites and I was left with just a couple that I pulled up on my phone during a break!
Next week it will be different.
