You can go to Eastside Boxings General Forum if you feel you need to get that out of your system.

Not sure about logic behind that statement really.
I think he's saying maybe in ireland they consider the interim title holder a world champion
I know what he is saying but I am struggling with the reasoning or logic behind it.

Based on what? Its just a dumb comment really.

Does he think the average person on the street in Dudley is more clued up on the varies alphabet shenanigans than the average person on the street in Dublin? Or does he just think we are all dumb Paddies that havent the ability to recognise the difference in the WBU and the WBA champion.
Not sure im staying out of that one - but i considered the WBU title as a world title (well back in the day anyway, not these days).

Good win for Degale

His got talent, no doubt but is a work in progress

I mean for example Tyson Fury a few fights ago was uppercutting himself in fights but now looks a force and could possibly match the likes of Povetkin in my view

Talent dosn't mean finished article, he needs to learn his game, work out his strenths and fine tune everything. Needs another 10-12 fights at european level before moving to world level.

Defence needs working on.

One other significant thing is that Degale is very good up close but from range he isn't, even though he is counter attacking boxer, needs to work on his fight game from range.

Dosn't always punch with the knuckle part of his gloves, needs to fine tune this as these are amatuer habits that he needs to get rid of

If he makes 4 or 5 successful defences of his european title he will be there or there abouts to challenge for world honours

I think part of the problem for him is saying he wants to be world champion by the 2012 olympics. It creates a certain expectation. On Saturday's performance he's got no chance of fulfilling that if he's going the Warren Boxing Organisation(WBO) route as Kessler, Stieglitz etc would destroy him. I'd probably back Brain Magee to beat him at this point. He's still a professional novice fighting in a very decent division. He needs a good 5-6 fights at decent Euro level before thinking about real world title fights.

The fight turned into a messy affair for James, he's got talent and has a good engine, but i've said it for some time now that when the chips are down he doesn't know what to do, and loses his way.

I think he needs a new environment for training and especially for sparring - There are fundamental flaws in his game that should not be present now.

I thought he was poor on Saturday, and again was banged up quite badly with cuts and bruises, which must be a bit of a worry.

I'm not sure he's going to make it in the long run, not without some changes.

I personally thought his performance was far from decent. He just seems to have this pitter patter feeble style, and doesn't put enough pressure on his oppenents.

He always seems to have the distant look on his face when his fighting, rather than looking agressive. May be its all part of his style and personality, but personally I don't think its working for him.

He's got more of a heart than i thought he had, i'll give him that.
I still dont think he has the work rate to mix it with the best, he looks lazy. His defence is not good enough. Imagine Froch landing one through that defence? He wouldn't last 6 rounds.

As a person i think he has learned a massive lesson, i think he came across much better pre and post fight this time round. I think he will learn alot more along the way and could become a big name in boxing but at the minute, its a little too soon for me

Good post. Thought the same - seemed like man v boy and most 12 fight prospects would have lost that one. Plus that punch that caught him in the 5th was near perfect, right on the temple and most would have been out cold from that.
Thought DeGale showed the toughness and grit of a future world champ.

I think that at after winning a gold media and signing with Warren then the plan is obviously to make as much money in a short of time possible.
With that in mind I think Saturdays fight was perfect for him at this stage. He would of learnt more about where he is and what is needed to go to the next step more than all the other fights combined and that includes the Groves fight.
Clearly talented but he needs to slow it down a bit now, defend his Euro belt and let the likes of Froch, Kessler and the top level fighters in the division age a bit whilst he learns his trade and develops more of a pro style then take those champs on when the time is better.
Talk of being and fighting for a world title by this time next year is far to premature and it's this attitude that will be his undoing IMO

Very strange disjointed performance from de Gale but he showed an impressive fighting spirit. At close quarters he was fabulous, ripping in lighting fast hooks and uppercuts, but at range he was tentative and inneffective. At one point the commentator said de Gale was fighting the Pole's fight when he got in close, which was actually the opposite of what was going on. He won that fight on the inside.

good point mate, add this to the fact his feet are skipping around a lot it means he is going to struggle to really put the hurt on top level guys without some technical finetuning :TU:

I'd like to see Tony Jeffries fight that Polish kid.

He could do with an opponent he doesn't have to chase.

dont get all this man v boy crap some posters are coming out with. degale is 25 or 26 and is all the man he will ever be... sure he needs more experience and more testing fights to learn from and he may improve but im not optimistic.
i remember when naseem hamed fought bellacastro for the euro title ..hamed had twelve fights and was twenty years old, bellacastro was an experienced solid euro fighter , and hamed made him look stupid... and that was man v boy.
degale got bashed up by someone who was meant to be a soft touch stepping stone.

Oh, FFS stop being so bloody sniffy man. You're complaining about his 'attitude' like you're a 14 year old going through puberty. Degale is 25 years old and he's had 12 fights and he's learning about boxing and life. Give him a break for god's sake.
So you like his attitude ??? Oh and what the fornicate is "sniffy" Bright spark

Nothing wrong with this match up, mate. A calculated move, non puncher, come forward type, slower than Degale, at 33, hardly on the up and with a higher World ranking. In short, a perfect 'opponent' for Degale, at this stage of his career.

The point I was making was, for a fairly light / average puncher, he hurt and wobbled Degale on atleast two occasions. James showed some fire to fight back, though, so there is nothing wrong with his heart.

Does not change the fact, for me anyways, that Warren and Degale's team expected him to breeze past the Pole and though he won the fight, 'Allegedly' will match him fairly carefully, for now. Forget about Abraham in the near future. Looks like Robert Stieglitz is the one they are gunning for.
