totally agree ste wood does a good job with his lads ,with the little resourses etc etc and no tv he does a great job fact

Can we get back to the subject. As i say I appreciate what Steve Wood does but this is a discussion on the best manager in the world.

In terms of managers I think that the demise of the traditional manager in the UK at least has been one of the problems with the sport. when done properly the manager can enhance the profile of their fighter and bring much needed exposure sponsorship and paydays for their fighter whilst guiding them through the pro game.

As much as I have respect for managers such as Ste Woods, Mickey Helliet etc. I often feel they dont do their utmost to secure the much needed media exposure and sponsorship for their fighters.

I understand that this is not an easy job and I am saying this from an outside perspective but it appears to me that more could be done. Adam Booth as mentioned before is the prime example of where a manager fighter relationship can be extremely beneficial for both parties.

If i was to go pro then i would try to get Steve Wood to manage my career. He gets his fighters good records and title shots, and if you look down his list of fighters there aren't any that you'll have seen on Olympics or ABA's. Other managers in this country have many losing record fighters.

I'm with helliet and I think he dies a pretty good job with me. I also know that he is well respected by most of the people I have crossed paths with in the game. as far as getting more media coverage and the likes I don't really understand what you expect a manager to do? At the end of the day if papers, tv or magazines don't want a fighters face on them what is a manager to do???

As far as best manager in the world I wouldn't know where to start. all I do know is that is a hard game for.us fighters and I can only imagine its a hard game for.the managers and promoters too.

Aside from the money men in the game I think most struggle so if Steve wood has done such a good job with so many fighters perhaps he does deserve recognition. I have never met the man nor know anything about him but I think Mooresy did pretty good and he was a great fighter who was loved by many so I think that speaks for itself.

Might not be the best but certainly the nicest and kindest boxing manager is Tony Aldeguer of the ALA Stable here in the Philippines. All his fighters including his world champ Donnie Nietes doesnt have signed contracts with him. Take 0 cut from their purse. Pays for everything once a boxer is included in his stable. Has sent all of his fighters to college. Most ALA boxers today holds a bachelor's degree. Gerry Penalosa is an original ALA fighter and he was able to finish college through ALA. But thats one of his downfall too as some of his prized wards were pirated from him like Rodel Mayol and Gerry Penalosa.

Tony Aldeguer doesnt use boxing as a way to earn money. He is a billionaire even after you convert his money into US dollars. He just takes in talented kids and give them a chance in life. He has a strong amateur team composed of kids from far flung places and he sends them all to school.

Whats your name mate i assume your a boxer?

I remember hearing Helliet on the Bunce Radio London boxing show and he gave a really good insight into his day to day life as a manager and it sounds like a really tiring but ultimately exciting and fairly reward and of course unique job. When i said about media coverage and organising sponsorship etc I said that from an outside looking in perspective I dont know all the details of what falls under a managers responsibilities.

What do you expect Helliet to deal with in terms of your career what are his areas of responsibility?

Basically at my level his job is to get me fights and make sure I'm training properly. he's a great fella and I'm really happy that he's looking after my best interest. I am trying to push on quicker but he's holding me back but he's only makin sure I don't step up too quickly. I get a phone call from local papers and other media coverages every fight but its low key and nothin national but its coverage none the less.

I thought exactly the same as you when I first turned pro but the quicker you realise its not glitz and glam the easier your ride will be. professional boxing is all about hard work sacrifice and hopefully if you give it your all you may win a title. my plan is to go as far as I can so my daughter and any other children I may have in the future can be proud and say their dad won titles or at least tried. Managers are there to help and guide you but at the end of the day unless your makin them lots of money they are not going to be able to spend loads of time on you I certainly am not looking into management after my career ends.

It sounds to me like you are in the sport for all the right reasons and I wish you the best of luck with your career. I understand that its not the glitz and glam that some people may think it is but I am just genuinely intrigued in what a managers role is considered to be. It sounds like he is doing his best for your career. When you say he goes about finding you fights I assume you arent affiliated with a particular promoter? DO you fight on his shows or anything and everything you can get type of thing? Did he approach you or vice versa? Sorry for all the questions just interested.

I fight on any shows that will have me mate. its not as easy as it sounds tho as it all comes down to who wants you on their shows. I approached him I found out about him through a friend and contacted him. I lived the way he never dressed it up he told me how it really is and almost put me off ha ha na I knew he was the right one after a meeting
