Actually, this just struck me: has anyone done any research on patterns & numbers of brain injuries before & after the ban of same-day weigh-ins? Are there any numbers for life-threatening brain injuries (just in say, Britain) before & after the change?

We hear "day-before weigh-ins", & think "Yeah that's safer, people used to fvck themselves up cutting weight 'cos they'd fight when they were dehydrated" & of course that statement is factually correct.

What I want to know is, does the day-before weigh-in actually result in safer contests for both boxers? Have we stopped bigger at the weight boxers fvcking themselves up, only so they can fvck up smaller at the weight dudes more thoroughly?

Not starting or nuffink, but it's one of those things that it'd be nice to know the actual numbers about & apart from baldly stating "But fighters were going into fights dehydrated" which is blindingly obvious I've never met anyone who could explain if (or indeed how) that that was better than letting people get Joey Gamached.

No weight Limit for Heavy's..... I think it would make it fairer but it would cause to much injury.. You'd see a lot more deaths in boxing and Boxing dont need anything like that...
I know I was only messing with the new Roman Polanski :TU:
I'm no Polanski, our lass is 48, not 14! Although I do like his movies. :TU:

There are two risks.... a guy is drained at the weight or his opponent is a stone and a half heavier.

The BBBofC should weigh the fighter in every one of the four weeks leading up to a fight.

Agreed. Its a farce when guys fighting for a worlds title are almost always atleast a division bigger. The weight category is then merely used as an obstacle.
A random check weigh-in every week for a month before championship fights. Each guy would have to be no more than a percentage over ... Less than 3-4%.

And better education to boxers & trainers.

Spend your time working on your skills, not battling with the scales. Being 160+ on fight night didn't exactly help Victoria Ortiz, did it?

Pacquiao was a massive drainer at the lower weights mate. eg at superfeather ( 130lbs) he'd come into the ring at 146lbs.

Yeah, before his team learned the error of their ways.

I think the supposed improvements he's made since then are overstated, but you can't argue that he looks much healthier and it'll help his longevity at the top, should he wish to carry on of course.

Early weigh ins can cause weight discrepancies... but dehydration is the top cause of brain damage so..... there is no perfect system; but I think the present one is best

.

Opportunities to be more correct. ;;-)
He was actually said to be practically carried onto the scales in one of his early fights .. which led to a loss..

The whole original idea of weight categorys was so guys would fight guys around their own weight .. which was safer than fighting guys who seriously out weighed them.
If some guys have better teams around them that know how best to lose weight and put it back on quickly - then that isn`t safe on the opponent who he faces if the guy is out weighed by a stone or so.
Boxing is pretty much a farce when it comes to fairness anyways :(
