I think the fact Walcott was knocked stone-dead by one punch the last time he was in the ring with Marciano was the reason he opted to box more conservatively in the rematch. This is consistent throughout boxing history.
Only Jersey Joe knew whether he could have got up. All we know for certain is that he got hit with a bomb.

Only Jersey knew?
How about the guy that threw the punch?
"He should have gotten up; I would have."
Rocky Marciano (from the wonderful Russell Sullivan book, The Rock of his Times)

Was Rocky ever a 40 year old fighter getting hit square by a young puncher in his absolute prime? I don't think he had much of a point of comparison.

looks like The Rock may have hit Walcott in the noggin with an earlier punch at about 9:26.
The second one could not have been more flush (even I could feel the impact from the film 66 yearsd later sitting here)
and you wonder why Jersey Joe Walcott
just didnt jump up as if it was a flash knockdown ?
perhaps he should have done some jumping jacks to prove to the ref that the "Suzie Q" didnt bother him none really?
Be serious man.
