i met lennie mclean a couple of times and he just seemed a bully to me,youve only gotta look at what former pro boxers done and that was to beat him,so it just goes to show the man had no skill in a boxing ring,perhaps on the cobbles. but johnny waldron beat him and cliffy fields,ive always said malcolm price from merthyr would of beat him as mal wasnt a bad heavyweight at all and he went on the unlicensed circuit,one of eddie thomas stable.

price wouldve battered them all. fearsome man. they are all insecure little bullies tho arent they? not that i'd tell 'em that. a fighter that never gets much of a mention is henry francis.

price has the tools to beat anyone :!: but he aint the most durable :!: fields was a fearsome banger tough as nails who's cut prone skin let him down severley.price would have beat him yes but if he got in close price i dont believe would stand up to his power

a man mclean avoided was paul sykes,he wasnt a mug as he could have it in the ring or on the cobbles,again a man who wasted his life as he ended up on the streets of wakefield,a chronis alkie. he put up a valiant effort against john l. gardener for the british title. i reckon he would of done mclean,anybody read the book "tarmac warrior"? by a guy called billy cribb. gotta admit ive never heard of the guy and the book started of ok then half way he started going on about illegal fights for the mafia in new york....oh dear another billy bullshitter ! apparently hes a comedian now as he says but i think he was one when he wrote that book,no more "hardmen" books for me as il think il stick to biographies of the great pugilists from past and present !

The bloke dancing around the ring at the beginning? He doesn't look in great shape yet he gets mentioned as one of the best unlicensed fighters. Any stories?

lol he boxed under the name of steve richards as a pro and was a middleweight from hungry,on the unlicence shows he was fighting heavyweights, if you ever go into rooney's gym at london bridge there are some posters on the walls of his fights, in that film he was about 45, lol me and micky steeds were trained by him for a few years when we were boxing on the un-licence lol bloody good times, he's still about popping up at the shows

nope he was a middle weight but it dont matter realy he was a lot better on the unlicenced than as a pro
