Alex Arthur would make perfect sense for a first defence - cheap, available and a crowd pleaser. Its funny the way things have turned out for Arthur, he was one of the heralded Sky stars, former world champion and has already completely dominated Burns - yet most people will regard him as a farcical opponent.

Its absolutely inconcievable that Arthur could win this fight, he seems to lack any zip at all in his punches and is far too easy to hit. Nevertheless part of me would like to see it, I've always been a fan of Arthur and I think his career has stalled in a really bizzare fashion considering he's still fairly young.

I may be verging on insanity here but if Scott Harrison wins a couple of fights. . .

I agree that his next fight will be Arthur. I dont think Burns v Mitchell should happen. I think Burns will be too skilled for Mitchell. Mitchell seems to do better against bangers who he can box on the back foot against (i know he got caught by the Kat).

I think Burns should just go for the mega fights abroad, why not. What does he have to lose. If he loses to a top guy, there is no shame in it. At least he will have tried rather than FW avoiding everybody.

I think burns should avoid the british fighters.
Go for top notch foreign opponents and give it a go.
If he fails to make a big impact by stepping up in class yet again then the Arthurs, Mitchells and Murrays etc will still be here for him.

Hope that his team make a good fan friendly choices this time as Ricky was getting a lotta stick for opponents whilst he was super featherweight champ, hopefully this victory against katsidis is enough to make them continue getting big names.

Don't see the point in an Arthur fight, but he's a faithful old servant to Allegedly as Cook was, and there's ancient history between the pair as well as them both being Scottish.

Then again, because I'm no fan of Alex Arthur, seeing Burns beat him for 12 rounds wouldn't have any objections from me.

Realistically if they're staying British it wants to be Mitchell, but with his ongoing problems I think Allegedly might steer clear of that one.

Reach for the skies with Burns, he's come up with the goods twice in fights that not many people expected him to win, and looked average at best in these filler fights.

Arthur & Limmond must surely be no no's even if Limmond does find a way past Crolla.

Burns has shown that he can cope with quality operators and doesn't need to drop down a few levels again like at SF. I could understand a so-called 'British Blockbuster' against Mitchell to boost his profile again but really he should be looking onwards and upwards. If he's going to be fighting on allegedly then he won't be attracting many casual fans so he should go stateside and see what kind of payday he can get over there

Hard to imagine Burns getting a Marquez fight at this point in his career. Gurrero is a beast and best left alone IMO, certainly no point jumping straight in at the deep end. DeMarco and Rios seem like the likely targets, both are good but beatable.

Cant see Warren getting Burns any of those fights anytime soon. True to form he'll be kept over here, one or two good domestic fights during 2012 is the best we can hope for IMO.

Looking at the Lightweight division at the moment there are plenty of attractive match ups out there that could be made however when you look at it

1: Juan Manuel Marquez: Due to fight Manny Pacquiao up at Welterweight but surely due a mandatory down at Lightweight, and for me would be too much of a gamble for Burns' second fight at Lightweight for me.

2: Robert Guerrero Would be a good match up but Guerrero is out injured at the moment
3: Brandon Rios Would another exicting match up aller Katsidis scheduled to fight John Murray at the Gardens
4: Miguel Vasquez Good tall technical fighter has got beat Ameth Diaz next
5: Antonio DeMarco Just defeated Jorge Linares on stoppage when way behind the cars won't be surprised if Linares pushes him for a rematch for earlier in the new year

7: Kevin Mitchell Same promoter would be easy to make but has got his licence suspended and would be a cracking fight to watch.
8: Henry Lundy Very good technical fighter currently available but on the rebuilt after getting smashed by John John Molina.
9: Vicente Escobedo Available do not much about him
10: John Molina Bit hitting exciting brawler would be fun to watch see Burns in with him however scheduled for a WBC Silver title fight down at Super-Feather
11: Ameth Diaz See Vasquez
12: Richard Abril Cuban good solid boxer recently defeated Miguel Acosta for the WBA's interim strap

i would let ricky fight henry lundy who just beat one of my favs david diaz , lundy is a good fighter , ranked and wouldnt cost that much id expect

kelvin hall in glasgow would be nice....as its 10 mins from my house lol

ps: id love david diaz to get another shot at the title , he always comes to fight , he also has a decent enough "name" in boxing but the lundy fight has probably pushed him too far back now

Surely no-one is too far back given Burns' stellar run of defences of his Super Featherweight title - Evensen, Laryea and Cook (current combined ranking on boxrec of 320!)?

That's not meant as a criticism of Burns, the fighter, but more as a wake up call to those expecting his team to pitch him in with the divisional heavyweights (metaphorically speaking)
