Does Tyson -v- Holmes count, or was Larry too old, bearing in mind he fought on for 14 more years without getting KOd again?

Roy Jones TKO2 Thomas Tate

Tate had just went the full 12 with Julian Jackson which no one had done in 11 years and Roy just obliterates him with one left hook..only man to stop him

Actually, Jackson knocking out Buster Drayton the way he did would've been a good example at the time.

I think you mean the Ward V Vince Philips fight where Micky was stopped on cuts after 3 rounds.

Roy Jones deserves a mention in this. First getting knocked in 2 rounds by Antonio Tarver in their second fight and then in the first against Danny Green. Also Jones steam rollered Montell Griffin in a round in their second fight. Also Roberto Duran getting steamrollered in two rounds by Thomas Hearns back in 1984, mind you Hearns got smashed in 3 rounds by Marvin Hagler as well .

When did Jones ever really prove himself durable, though?

When he had the stones to step to Heavyweight and defeat John Ruiz and giving away 33lbs into the bargain. Granted Ruiz is probably not one of the biggest of punchers up at Heavyweight but he went 12 rounds with a full blown heavyweight wins the title and two fights later gets flattened by Antonio Tarver in their second fight.

Did think about that one but wasn't sure if the 5 round counted as early. 15 round fight I suppose...

I thought about that one, but didn't know if that qualifies as "early". (It was a 5th round ko.) It was one heck of a left hook though.

Good shout, yeah that was a strange one, Tiozzo lost a 12 round SD to Hill, then in the rematch gets floored 3 times in the first and stopped for the first and only time in his career.

Fireman Jim Flynn Ko'd Jack Dempsey in 1 round. Dempsey avenged the loss soon afterwards though with a devastating ko of his own. This was 2 or 3 years before Dempsey-Willard.

Ray Mercer,(Even As past prime as he was) getting Ko'd by Shannon Briggs is another great example for this thread.

By all accounts Dempsey took a dive in that fight, a very odd result and something very fishy about it

I love this fight. JJ was lining up the big left hook all night long; you just knew one was going to land flush at some point, it was just a case of when. Then eventually it did and...timbeerrrrr.
