Yes i said RJJ, if my list was terrible because i had him on there then so be it. Tyson, Hamed and McClellan was on that list as well.

is the reason why i said that. As RJJ would say "Yall musta forgot!" lol

Jackson was winning the first fight. He hit McClellan with a low blow in the 5th round and got caught cold almost immediately after the break which lasted a minute or two. Just didn't seem back to full fight mode yet, and McClellan was.
McClellan really had a granite chin, though. Jackson was hitting him pretty consistently with flush shots, and he barely even reacted to them. His chin was every bit as impressive as his power.

Really? I wouldn't put him up there with the very top guys, but he was a vicious puncher, make no mistake.Jaywheel wrote:Even RJJ can't believe his name is associated with punch devastation.

Jones would still be nearer the top than Chavez.

What about Nigel Benn, devastating puncher?
Re: Greatest Puncher Of The Past 25 Years?
Hearns for me. He had a combination of sheer power as well as speed that made him the best puncher p4p ever imo.

Cote is a young beast! This kid really has a bright future in the sport, but with that kind of power, I see him getting ducked alot.BarryWashington wrote:i think i would also throw out jhonny gonzalez out there. and i think pretty sure we're gonna be talkin about pier olivier cote.

I think Joe Louis edges Hearns pound-for-pound on that front. The End wrote:Hearns for me. He had a combination of sheer power as well as speed that made him the best puncher p4p ever imo.
Joe had power in both hands & his short punches were amongst the most devastating I've seen.

Yeah Joe is definitely up there with his almost perfect punching technique.Syntax Error wrote:I think Joe Louis edges Hearns pound-for-pound on that front. The End wrote:Hearns for me. He had a combination of sheer power as well as speed that made him the best puncher p4p ever imo.

Either way I feel good about it they're both from Detroit.

Roy Jones Jnr has probably only been mentioned on the list for his fourth round body shot knockout of Virgil Hill in 1998.

Re: Greatest Puncher Of The Past 25 Years?
I was watching some Miguel Cotto fights last night and I think he deserves a mention as well as he was an utter killer down out at Light-Welter. Flattening Ricardo Torres and Chop-Chop Corley along the way and flattening Rocky Martinez with a body shot too.
Re: Greatest Puncher Of The Past 25 Years?
Giving this a little more thought I think Jackson is clearly the best puncher of the last 25 years. Going back 25 years would put us in 1986, all of Hearns' greatest knockouts were prior to 1986. So that should disqualify him from the conversation. Aside from that I've always thought Jackson was only a decent boxer at best, nothing stands out about him except for his punch, he doesn't have the greatest chin, he had pretty poor defense, he didn't have the greatest movement around the ring or technique. Almost everything he ever accomplished in boxing was from his awesome punching power, and it took him a long, long way.

I still say Tyson, when you had grown men sh*tting themselves before, during and after a fight, says alot about your power!

Re: Greatest Puncher Of The Past 25 Years?
Id have to rate mclellan over jackson . some of his knockouts were absolutely cartoonish he must hold the record for knocking most guys unconscious on their feet putting them out with their body followig their brain in delayed reaction.....what an era at 154-160 in the late 80's /early 90's......mclellan,benn,hearns,jackson, barkley, norris and mccallum and mugabiKing Carlos wrote:The answer is Jackson. I've been watching a whole ass load of fights recently, just to refresh and have some fun. Recently went through a month long festival of watching nothing but great action fights, and I've been doing the same for the big hitters for the past few weeks, just watching any and all weight classes, gaging their power, comparing and contrasting, etc.
Pound for pound nobody I've ever seen on film (much less the past 25 years) has ever had the same effect with their punches on their opponents. He had the pendulum effect going when he swung those meat cleavers, and would put it right through the opponent's face. Similarly awe-inspiring with both the right and left hand. He's the man.
