Jackson was winning the first fight. He hit McClellan with a low blow in the 5th round and got caught cold almost immediately after the break which lasted a minute or two. Just didn't seem back to full fight mode yet, and McClellan was.

McClellan really had a granite chin, though. Jackson was hitting him pretty consistently with flush shots, and he barely even reacted to them. His chin was every bit as impressive as his power.

I was watching some Miguel Cotto fights last night and I think he deserves a mention as well as he was an utter killer down out at Light-Welter. Flattening Ricardo Torres and Chop-Chop Corley along the way and flattening Rocky Martinez with a body shot too.

Giving this a little more thought I think Jackson is clearly the best puncher of the last 25 years. Going back 25 years would put us in 1986, all of Hearns' greatest knockouts were prior to 1986. So that should disqualify him from the conversation. Aside from that I've always thought Jackson was only a decent boxer at best, nothing stands out about him except for his punch, he doesn't have the greatest chin, he had pretty poor defense, he didn't have the greatest movement around the ring or technique. Almost everything he ever accomplished in boxing was from his awesome punching power, and it took him a long, long way.

The answer is Jackson. I've been watching a whole ass load of fights recently, just to refresh and have some fun. Recently went through a month long festival of watching nothing but great action fights, and I've been doing the same for the big hitters for the past few weeks, just watching any and all weight classes, gaging their power, comparing and contrasting, etc.

Pound for pound nobody I've ever seen on film (much less the past 25 years) has ever had the same effect with their punches on their opponents. He had the pendulum effect going when he swung those meat cleavers, and would put it right through the opponent's face. Similarly awe-inspiring with both the right and left hand. He's the man.

Id have to rate mclellan over jackson . some of his knockouts were absolutely cartoonish he must hold the record for knocking most guys unconscious on their feet putting them out with their body followig their brain in delayed reaction.....what an era at 154-160 in the late 80's /early 90's......mclellan,benn,hearns,jackson, barkley, norris and mccallum and mugabi
