Who would you see him fight in his 5th fight then? It's far from being fixed, you watch to many movies. Up and coming pro fights journeyman, agreed it shouldn't be for a title but I stand by it being an o.k 5th fight. I find it strange it's on a wednesday night though.Rogue wrote:does it ever occur to you that these fights are all tailor made and made to suit- just short of being fixedyid14 wrote:It's not a bad fight for his 5th fight. Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
well, fight another equally well conditioned - relative novice of a "celebrity" boxer....there were plenty of them on fight for life, which again was a very successful formula....only the main "pro bout" made a mockery of things but oh well....yid14 wrote:Who would you see him fight in his 5th fight then? Monty Betham Jnr then? Or Jason Williams?
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
Is this a North Island/South Island thing or does New Zealand just have its own alphabet wars?hearns wrote:Brute wrote:Who last held the NZ title? Didn't Welliver win it last year?
Chauncy holds the NZNBF Heavy Title.
Cameron Held the NZPBA Heavy Title which he relinquished.
See........ clear as mud.
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
Alphabet wars mate! For a country of NZ's size you'd think we should have just the ONE professional sanctioning bodie!
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
I believe N.Z. has a breakaway rebel pro league, much like the amateur situation here.
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
Awesome. A country with such depth really needs at least two bodies.dberry wrote:I believe N.Z. has a breakaway rebel pro league, much like the amateur situation here.
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
I think New Zealand and Australia would both benefit from pooling their talent, scraping the Aus. and N.Z. title and having the one Anzac title and the north and south islands, or perhaps the NZ title itself being akin to a state title.
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
No no no, why scrap them when we could just add in an ANZAC Title!?! We should trademark that right now, there must be some sanctioning $$$ in it for us!!!
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
Perhaps we could start our own Anzac professional sanctioning body. ANZ. P.B.A
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
if you are going to use the name Anzac you had better get permission from the RSL. You can't advertise anything as Anzac without their permission. It is a
registered trademark.
registered trademark.
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
Well, in reality it couldn't be Anzac any way, Brute, as even though it would be an Australian and New Zealand title, it wouldn't be for the Army Corps. would it now!?

D
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
Probably about as well s Alex would go against Sonny in a line out jump.iron rhino wrote:My 5th fight was a farce, but my 6th fight I faced alex leapai,12rnds,how do you guys think dunny would go against him in real life!D

Alex was a very good league player mate, he just did both growing up, he hit hard and was a very capable running forward, no exageration mate he was one of the better jnr players in Queensland. Reality is he could of played pro and i think he played Queensland cup.
And Sonny is a centre in Rugby?

Yeah mate thats great insight into the fight game, and definately an upgrade on Tutaki.
Betham is a cruiserweight and Jason Williams is 1-1....seriously couldn't stop laughing while writing this
Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
It was a reply to a question, Rogue said he thought SBW should fight someone with novelty value and of his own athletic abilities, both were league players. For someone who doesn't wish to talk to/give me anymore of there time you sure seem like your stalking my posts, now go back to writing your comics (although your foul mouth really isn't for children)Hounddawg wrote:yid14 wrote:Monty Betham Jnr then? Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
Williams was a forward in League. I have not kept track of his position in Rugby but going by his height and weight I would imagine he would be a forward. Lineout jumpers are usually over 190cm tall. Alex is more nuggety. Queensland Cup rugby league is professional.Hounddawg wrote:Brute wrote:Probably about as well s Alex would go against Sonny in a line out jump.iron rhino wrote:My 5th fight was a farce, but my 6th fight I faced alex leapai,12rnds,how do you guys think dunny would go against him in real life!D

Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
When Dunny first went to France for rugby, his club used him as a breakaway/loose forward but quickly twigged to his ball skills, speed and size and shifted him to the centres. He has remained a centre ever since, including in the recent Rugby World Cup for NZ.
Even with the lifting allowed in rugby lineouts, Dunny's extra height would still have been an advantage, but his ability to set up attacks far outweighed lineout wins.

Re: Sonny Bill fighting for NZ Heavy weight title
He would still have the advantage in a jump over a man 10 centimetres shorter than him.
By the way, the lifting rule was only changed because the Northern Hemisphere countries could not win lineouts against John Eales.

Have to take a boxer seriously when he names himself after a soporific intoxicant.Brute wrote:Tutaki once beat King Kava. Must have been an eating contest.

Pacific Islanders have their own approach to boxing.
