He was totally fearful of The Hawk...thats why he went after soft touches, like Duran and Hearns
Its such BS. Like saying someone who tackled a lion and a tiger was just ducking a cheetah.

Journeyman Buck Smith, who fought between '87 to '09, welter to middle, fought Harold Brazier in a 15 round fight in August 1990.
Did you know that Buck's last fight was against Boxrec poster Damon Reed at Cruiserweight.

Amazing stuff. I remember seing Buck Smith KO Kirkland Laing in what seems a hundred years ago. Smith was getting a pasting until a lapse in concentration from Kirkland. All over red rover

That just sums up Kirkland Laing. If he was focused all the time, what could he have achieved?

Kirkland V a local Oz goer from the 80's Brian Janssen. The fight took place in 1985. Yet another bizarre set of circumstances involving Laing. It looked like Janssen rushed him, butted him then slung him to the canvas. Janssen then hit him while he was down, which should have been a DQ. it looks like Laing could have gotten up but didn't. Official result?...Janssen KO5 Laing. Weird

Only is a Laing fight. The shame is, that a lot of people don't give Laing any credit for beating Duran. They say Duran was having a bad night. Laing dominated him and won fair and square.

Correct. Then inexplicably but maybe predictably...Laing disappeared for quite a while afterwards instead of capitalising on the win

Yep. Only of Planet Laing.
If they made a movie of his life, it'd have to be Terry Gilliam or Abel Ferrara directing.

Here's part 1 of Araron Pryor's fight with DuJuan Johnson. I have a sneaking suspicion Pryor was off his face on drugs before during and after the fight. Check out this absolutely mental episode

Top quality mate.
I have it on good authority that McCall was coked up in the dressing room before the Bruno fight. He refused to take a urine test after the fight.

I read that somewhere recently. Funny how urban legends can grow legs over the years.

One of the more bizarre finishes to a boxing match I've seen. Interesting to hear the referee Creed agree with the suggestion that Kirkland dogged it. All the talk of a rematch amounted to nothing. They never did meet again.

Creed was trying to justify his own position and lack of action re the illegal punch by Janssen. I really do hate it when we blatantly cheat or watch it happen, then pretend it didn't happen or blame the other guy. Maybe we're not the good sports that we like to portray ourselves as

Dujuan Johnson is the oldest 20-year-old in the business.

Yeah that's what I thought

Maybe putting up with Pryor's strange antics aged him overnight
Johnson was murdered in 1985? He was found shot in the head and had a gun in his hand when they found him in an alleyway. It seems he nay have been involved in some stuff he maybe shouldn't have been

True. I was surprised there wasn't an uproar when Creed raised Janssen's hand. Even Janssen himself didn't look at all surprised.
It wasn't the first time Janssen hit Kirkland when he was down either. He clearly did it, or at least attempted to, when Kirkland hit the deck earlier in the fight.

Gene Tunney inhaled bus exhaust during training. Wilfredo Benetiz never trained very
hard. While training with Lennox Lewis, Mike Weaver was told to just box in sparing, he said he only knew how to fight. John Tate claimed to have a bunch of knockouts while in prison, a 6'4" 400 lbs. Former hvy champ would be hard to handle. Sorry for bunching together, no tab button.

Freddy Pendleton lost a non title fight to a 21-21 fighter while lightweight champ. Happened often back years ago, but don't happen much anymore.

here is a good few stories by Bill Squires. The one about Jimmy Sharman here, the legendary promoter from Australia isnt a bad one. Knocked his opponent down with one punch but ended up being caught in a leg scissors and losing.

Possibly another world champ, but I'm sure not another heavyweight champ.

Duane Thomas-John Mugabi,In they're december 1986 bout,Mugabi demanded before the bout that they dont use Thumb Tabbed gloves, they obliged his demand, but it backfired on Mugabi as he got badly thumbed in the 3rd round and lost by 3rd round tko.
