He had power and speed, which will take you a long way. Great finisher. Great combinations. Durable. Tenacious.

Like many HW fighters of that era and before his title reign wasn't as impressive as his run to the title.

He'd be number 2 to Johnson in my list of great HWs from the first quarter of HW history. I'd give him a chance against anyone. He'd be in my all-time top 10. Somewhere between 5-8.

That is pretty much how I see it. Like many champions, his title defenses don't look that impressive. However, he beat an awful lot of contenders before he ever got a title shot. Most of them he beat very easily.
He was tenacious, hard htting, and fast.

For heavyweights, he probably deserves to be in the Top 10. There are many guys very close from #3 to about #12. Counting all weight classes, he is easily in the Top 100; arguably top 50.
