The Murat decision was fair but crazily wide and although Karpency is not bad at what he does, Cleverly should not be fighting a guy who has been beaten by someone that Cleverly has
already beaten.
I know that Cleverly is being lined up for Hopkins and they don't want that fight to fall by the wayside, however, this is not a great fight and to be honest its not a good fight. The pace that Cleverly fights at will be too much for this kid and I can see him breaking him down late on
Absolute rubbish mate. Trust me, Warren's matchmaking has feck all to do with a "possible" showdown with Hopkins - though of course, Warren would love people to believe that to be the case.
IMO Hopkins v Clev is nothing but a pipe-dream from Team Clev (and i dont blame them for wanting the fight - but thats a million miles away from suggesting the fight is likely)

This guys looks hopeless (although Cleverly is no Joe Calzaghe either).
Surely they could got a better opponent for him than this?
With all due respect to Tony Bellew who put in a great performance but that was a gimme fight too considering Bellew has done nothing to deserve a world title shot and never done anything above domestic level but at least that fight had good hype about it and promised action, this one isn't even worth watching and STINKS in every way.
Feck warren and he can go stick his channel up his ass, you can't con us anymore!
There are some decent Light heavyweights who i would have accepted and at least would have built up the fight to make it worth watching like the following.
Edison Miranda
Allen Green
Gabriel Campillo
Adrian Diaconu
Glen Johnson
Tommy Karpency is a truly terrible choice in every way!

Campillo would been good. I reckon Enzo Mac is few fights away from being lined up.

I don't think I can add anymore disgusted comments that haven't already been said.
Looking at the WBO rankings for December, he wasn't even in the top 15. This really is a poor choice, no ifs or buts.

Another good ol' boy with a padded record from the sticks, the type that routinely get promoted in the wbo rankings as cannon fodder for protected title holders. It's why the German promoters just love the wbo.
Nathan should be embarrassed about serving up crap like this to his fans.

All of them would have been far far better then Karpency, i'd add that a Bellew rematch would have be fine too but Karpency is just bottom of the barrel stuff and probably a sign of the shit Box notion are gonna serve up in the future.

On second glance, he's number 11 in the Cruiserweight division. Still, it's a shocking match up.

It clear Cleverly will be guided down the Calzaghe route.

Thoughts please?
I'm disgusted by this.
Cleverly has a mandatory waiting, yet chooses a clubfighter for a world title defense.

Hilariously bad.
I was aghast when that Fanfana chap was mooted as an opponent, but he's a unified 3-weight world champ in comparison to this clown. All credit to Team Warren for finding someone this utterly hopeless - managed to exceed all of our wildest expectations. Will make the follow up all welsh world title match up against Enzo Macc that bit more mouthwatering.
Does this guy breach the Bobby Gunn watermark for pathetic defences?
Will be great to see/hear how Fwanks (Mouth) Organ, Steve Bunce, pretends this is anything other than a turd on a plate. (All for a measly £10 a month you mugs. Proper boxing fans have never had it so good)

We're all 'real' boxing fans and a bit too tied up with nostalgia . allegedly has simply looked around for the cheapest opponent he could get so that he can make maximum profit . People will turn up for a good night out without even thinking if this guy is a worthwhile champion . It will be really interesting to see how anyone outwith the promoters can talk this fight up . Would SKY have accepted him ??

I think the answer to that is yes.

Did we really expect Cleverly to be defending against a worthy opponent? No way FW giving up that WBO World Title.

Sure Warren thinks this is a homecoming fight for Cleverley so he can serve any old shit up to the welsh people and they'll buy it but he's gonna find they arn't gonna bite so easily as times and economics have changed since the 90's and 2000's and people want to know they're getting value for money which this fight totally dosen't give them.
Everything that is wrong with Boxing marketing in Britain can be seen with this match-up, there's not even the tiniest effort and respect to even give boxing fans something to get interested in.
As mentioned i don't even see how this fight can be promoted or marketed as Karpency brings absolutely nothing. Going back to my choices they all at least bring something:
Glenn Johnson - well known name even to the casual boxing fan for his fights with Clinton woods that were shown live on itv/bbc plus facing Carl Froch and knocking out RJJ. Was poor against Bute but would still be a respectable opponent and be easy to market as a fight.
Edison Miranda - would be great in press conference and be like a portugeuse/spanish version of Bellew talking smack to Clev plus you could have his Knockouts of year playing on a loop in background and get everyone talking about the fight.
Allan Green - Frustrating enigma but he can talk great smack, has real presence and movie star looks so would help build up the fight in interviews and press conference, again you could have his KO over Codrington playing on a loop in background to whip people up into a frenzy thinking the dude is a killer.
Gabriel Campillo/Adrian Diaconu - Both ex world champions and respected tough guys that come to fight so would get acceptence from the boxing fan and be able to sell the fight as being a tough defence and get the boxing community interested.

How many of his big stars seem to be having warm up fights. Mitchell, Cleverly, Burns most likely.

Just tells me that Box notion are already running out of money and can't afford to bring in any decent names.

So true, lets see if Buncey comes on here to face the fans and apologise for this fight and for trying to make us feel bad for not signing up for the turd that Box notion is fast becoming!

When will Nathan Cleverly box a world class opponent?
He is not a world champion, even by WBO standards.
What an embarrassment.

Mitchell is understandable. I'd also like to see John Murray gets a couple of easy ones. Cleverly, however, just had a voluntary defence. Last proven fighter he faces was Murat.

I think Mitchell ready for Burns. Ormond as novice its not good enough to headline a bill.
