Christian Esquivel had a 24-2 record (18KOs) and had won the final WBC elimination going into the fight.
I stand corrected Brute, Esquivel was the fifth best Mexican bantamweight. Esquival won the eliminater by beating Garcia who is rated No. 108 bantamweight in the world and the sixteenth best Mexican bantamweight.
Esquivel was on a 13 fight winning streak before Yamanaka got to him, Hernias. He would have been rated higher before the fight.
