Jeff, if I remember rightly - Johnson had fought in the UK just before the Naz fight and looked decidedly shaky. If I remember, boxing monthly commented that his vulnerabilty (which was due to age and a hard career) was a big reason why they went for Naz.

Sorry for being pedantic, the rest is pretty much spot on - although you could add that Bungu was no featherweight and Cruz wasn't world level (at the time of the Naz fight at least).

My reply to this is what Stujones said. Also, Robinson as 'world class'? Highly debatable.

PS - Naz was clearly a world class hitter, I was just playing devil's advocate. Saying Bruno wasn't a world class puncher simply because he didn't knock down men who, within their prime, had a combined 'knockdowns against' ledger that could be counted on one hand doesn't mean he couldn't hit like a bastard!

Naz was up there, number one in my opinion - He had that punch that was labelled a corkscrew, never seen anyone able to throw anything like it before or since, not with such devastating effect anyway.

Love watching his early fights, where his boxing abilty was more prevalent. Schooling the European champion Belcastro in his 12th fight showed how much of a prodigious talent he was.

Reguarding Robinson, i suppose its back to interpretation as to how you label some1 world class. Personally i think anyfighter who peforms well, even with mixed results against top 5 ranked fighters on a regular basis deserves that moniker.I defo dont think SR was world class for all his career but he had a spell where he really shone(just before Naz did him) and even at the end of his career when he was losing he got an outstanding draw with Welcome Ncita in S,Africa. Bruno was a tremendous puncher (esp the right hand) and would have ko'd King Kong had he hit him on the chin but i have to say Naz was the hardest puncher p4p i have seen from Britain

One of biggest punchers the featherweight division has ever seen, if not the biggest. Not many brits can claim that in other divisions.
Lennox was a beast, but lots of other big heavy punchers in that division (throughout the ages) with similar power

Alexander of course, though he didnt face too many at genuine world class. Hamed, Lewis, Benn (very much so), Colin Jones, MacAuley (for a Fly)

It was only Lewis and Hamed who were regularly flattening people at world level. It is more typical in the heavies, as a feather and a little feather too he was an exceptional puncher.

Lets be fair; Hide is about 10 years past his peak.

In his prime he was a very good puncher and fast and game.
