December 1977

Vysotsky, wearing a red shirt, appears about 15 seconds into the film. He's not the first Soviet seen, who wears a white shirt and gets floored by Page.

The video shows Igor belaboring Page, who ducks, bends, and runs to stay safe. Then we see a new Vysotsky bout, in which he's flooring an American opponent who isn't Page. That second US guy is probably Woody Clark or Jimmy Clark.

I know he fought an exhibition with Gardner on 29th May 1979 at the RAH..he also fought Lottie Mwale and Joe Awome...Ali was apparently 250lbs plus...
[/quote]

Did he box Gardner, Mwale and Awome on the same night? And do you know how many rounds?

He boxed Johnny Frankham on the 19th Oct 1971 at the RAH, and did he box Gardner, Mwale and Awome on the same night in 1979? Thanks

I remember Ali being interviewed in 1978 about fighting the Soviet heavyweights, Vysotsky, Gortschkov, and Zaev.

The sportscaster asked about the often-repeated claim that these Soviets, like their Cuban and Iron Curtain counterparts, were the equivalent of top-rated Western professional fighters, in terms of experience and ability. Ali rebuffed the argument, saying that the Communist stars were "very advanced amateurs" and "not professionals."

I always trusted Ali's judgment on the matter.

Had Stevenson and Vysotsky turned pro, they would have needed two or three years development before accruing the experience necessary to fight the top contenders of that era.

THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF MUHAMMAD ALI
( but don't quote me on that )

Hi,

yeah it wasn't the mammoth book of Muhammad Ali, but funnily enough the last few days I went away on holiday with my family and was staying in a house by the beach. Guess what the house owner had in their small library. It was a book called Muhammad Ali the unseen archives and in the back they had his record with loads of exhibitions included as well as pics of some exhibitions.

It contains a few of his exhibitions, maybe like 20, but he did over 100.

that must be the book (Muhammad Ali The Unseen Archives )by William Strathmore, published in 2001)
I saw over at Google books a few years ago, I just looked there again, but it is no longer there anymore.
It has been removed except for it's title and author
(no preview)
How many exhibitions does it list and are they just his exhibitions Ali had done in the United Kingdom ?

It has exhibitions from America and other places too like Sweden. Funnily enough, the book shows pictures of exhibitions in the UK but doesn't include them on the record. I would post pics of the full record but I don't know how to do it on here.

I genuinely had no idea about all of these exhibition fights.

It's easy to overlook when you are checking the record on Boxrec and it's all official fights and obviously you watch videos it'll all be the high profile bouts that come up in searches

The only one I knew of was the Japanese wrestler that turned into a shambles
