Arthur spun around very quickly and was facing Quigg again almost as soon as he had turned away. He wasn't cowering away from the onslaught of Quigg, he just got hit by a big body shot that hurt him and made his body react.
Arthur's hands weren't down when Quigg threw his next punch after Arthur had spun, so the ref didn't need to sprint in at all. Arthur actually blocked the very next shot that Quigg threw. It was an early stoppage.

I think the ref deserves praise.
The fact that Quigg probably would have won soon after anyway is irrelevant.
The ref had a split second - no replays - and he saw Arthur double up, turn his back and then drop his hands - HE HAD TO STEP IN.
Quigg was about to try and take his head off and Arthur wouldn't, or couldn't defend himself.
Sure, Arthur regained his composure quickly and raised his hands in defence -we know that NOW - but the ref showed lightening-quick reactions to protect a (briefly) defenceless boxer.
That's HIS JOB - to protect boxers - and he should be praised for reacting so quickly.

Arthur could and did defend himself.

He stopped it early, he deserves no praise.
Referees in this country stop fights much too early, which is why there is now the term "British stoppage".

What its done is possibly give Arthur a rematch that he might not necessarily deserve (as he seemed destined to lose).
Although the rematch might be interesting, Arthur will have shed some ring rust and it he was knicking the fight untill he scored his KD - which seemed to wake up Quigg.

Mate Arthur wasnt even facing quigg he spun round and faced the ref grimacing with his hands by his waste the ref was already sprinting in to stop quigg diving on him, by the time Arthur had turned round and put his hands up quigg was already pulling his shot and hit him quite lightly because he could see the fight was being stopped. Also Arthur didnt put up a protest his corner did.

I thought it was a fair stoppage, well timed even, and I'm the first to complain when a ref jumps in too quickly. IMO Arthur was no longer in the fight and Quigg was dishing out more punishment. Agree with the ref's stoppage.
