Steve Bunce sounded confident......
There is no way Johnson can beat Calzaghe,he`ll be lucky to last the distance. His two fights with Woods proved this.Woods shook him in the first fight and is Woods any sort of puncher??in the second fight he hit Woods some cracking shots which if he really was a good puncher he would of put Woods away.
Do you really think Woods could make it competitive against Joe/?????
Johnson is a very strong, fit and determined fighter but that is all,Joe would win easily.Warren will make sure Joe gets this fight, hundred times easier than fighting Tarver or Erdei

Woods has a cast iron chin, he got hit with everything but the kitchen sink by Jones Jr, and never went down, his corner saw the way it was going and sensibly pulled him out, but Jones hit him with some pearlers.
Calzaghe has never fought at light heavyweight, and he couldn't stop Charles Brewer, Johnson is as good if not better than Brewer technically.
Johnson is no joke, I cannot believe how underrated he is, he's a very proficient fighter, not a great fighter, but a very good one, and Calzaghe is the man moving up to his division.

Yes, I would be interested to see how Calzaghe would have fared against either Gonzalez or Dariusz, both of whom are naturally big men.
I am as yet unconvinced that Calzaghe has what it takes to make a big impression at light heavyweight. Men like Tarver are so much bigger than him, and hit damned hard too. Calzaghe is hardly the second coming of Willie Pepp when it comes to defence, and against much harder punching opponents his aggresive style is going to leave him vulnerable.

I was very impressed with Johnson in both of the fights against Clinton (especially the second one), I think a Calzaghe-Johnson fight could be a close affair.
Steve Bunce sounded that confident, I thought I would trust the useless, fat, bald b@stard and use my joker in the prediction league on a Woods UD

Late stoppage at middle... seeing how johnson has filled out to a super strong light heavy he probably was really tight at the weight and got stopped by a great fighter in Hopkins...tonyevs wrote:Gonzalez,Ottke hardly fantastic fighters are they?? where is the point?
Johnson got stopped by Hopkins, I think Calzaghe hits faster and harder than him and fighting an older version will no doubt help.
We will see who is correct because Warren WILL make the fight.
Gonzalez and Ottke, not fantastic fighters??? maybe not but by the same criteria neither is Calzaghe then

Hopkins is an all time great middleweight, and a all time great fighter period, getting stopped by him is no big shame.
And don't give me any bollocks about how because Calzaghe hits harder at SM, that means Calzaghe would do him. I will bet that Hopkins gradually took him apart, piece by piece, not just walloped the crap out of him.
Calzaghe and Hopkins have totally different fighting styles, and just because Hopkins stopped Woods nearly a decade ago, doesn't mean Calzaghe can do it now.
I am very much looking forward to seeing those two fight.

Yes it was in 1997, a long time and 2 weight divisions ago. Whilst 28 is the physical prime for a lot of figthers, it doesn't mean it's their fighting prime. Lennox Lewis is a prime example of a fighter who was a late bloomer.
I haven't seen Johnson's early career, but I would hazard a guess that he must have been emaciated at middleweight, because he looked very lean at 175....
The fighters who have bothered Johnson in the past are not bangers like Calzaghe, but slick boxers, although strangely he dropped a decision to Sheika as a late sub.
Hopkins remains the onyl guy to stop him, and Hopkins is the most technically complete fighter after James Toney.

I think Glengoffe Johnson V Joe Calzaghe would be very interesting as both fighters bring lot's of positives to the table, but I think the deciding factor will be Joe's speed of hand. How Joe copes with the step up to lightheavyweight is also of intrigue.
P.S. bennie, very valid comment "since when did Calzaghe beat someone in their hometown?". Would the answer be 'not once'?
