The picture quality is a big issue that needs resolving as soon as possible. If you can't broadcast in HD is this era, then straight away you are going to lose viewers, potential subs.
As for making it a PPV, isn't it already classed as that, seeing as you have to pay a tenner a month? How much money do you want to give them?!

No don't think so, it would have been a cynical masterstroke if it was just after the 6 month expires. In fact, after his sons talked him into buying the fight, he'll be fuming this one comes just before the 6 month get out.G0mez wrote:Just read it on twitter folks on allegedly account.
Nicely timed, a week before people's 6 month contract expires.
Masterstroke ?
Plus to me it seems a cut rate super fight, maybe it was 5 years ago, but Floyd will be 10-1 on surely. Still it's a nice bill for allegedly to offer, but the previous 5 months have been less that stellar, and it might not be enough to get people to sign back up.
They might need a glittering summer line up - which with Olympics and football, is highly unlikely.
Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
bag of sh1te why am i paying my sky bill if it loses the big fights like this to fvcking fish eyes
Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
ye good call lets rip the boxing fans off abit more ppv what a joke,we pay enough 95 for normal sky plus 10 for channel 456 now your saying charge people more??? do you know the country is in a fvcking recession?leforge wrote:Good for the channel but I reckon most of the budget gone on this fight. Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
its £95 for all the kids channels, movie channels and sports channels on virgin tv plus you get the internet and phone too which is free to landlines its not just 100 for tv its tv,internet and phone too :)MachoMan09 wrote:Do some people really pay over a hundred quid a month to watch television? I was referring to the channel getting bigger numbers through a ppv for Mayweather fight as I cannot see too many casuals actually subscribing to a channel for 3 months.
Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
Couldn't believe it when i subscribed last week, started dosing off during a show and decided to watch the rest on my other box upstairs. Oh...... wooops, apparently its a separate subscription for different boxes IN THE SAME HOUSE! Unbelievable.
After a few emails of complaint they have ensured me they are trying to resolve the problem so that a second box can have a subscription at a reduced rate. A REDUCED rate, that will be right. Cancellation straight after the May v Cotto fight.
Must add though that the lack of HD isn't a problem to me. Still enough quality to enjoy the fights although a Sky broadcast is more professional from start to finish.

will watch this via other methods in HD, unless BN bring a hd version out before then

I can't understand why you are complaining?
Sky charge for multiroom. All I get on my second set is freeview channels, not any of the Sky channels, because I won't pay for multiroom.
Setanta charged for a second set, so do other channels like Racing UK. Why should allegedly be different?
Maybe you give Sky so much money that you have forgotten what you pay them for
Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
You pay multi-room , because sky issue the hardware, install a quad LNB, print you a second sky card and thus replicate all your channels onto the secondary box.
Non-sky Subscription channels charging extra for multi-room is somewhat bollocks.
They (all of them) hide behind a mantra that someone might have run a cable into next door's flat / house and giving them 2 household's cover for 1 subscription.
The reality is sky poll the second boxes to ensure they marry with the same address, they carry out the checks for themselves. If its good enough for them it certainly good enough for 3rd parties who rent a channel off their satellite.

That's not true. My second box is a Sky box, but I don't pay for multi-room.
When I got Sky+, I was talked into paying for multi-room, but then cancelled it and got a card (believe Sky charged me something like £3 for it) and now get just freeview channels on the second TV. Apart from that one payment for the card, I do not pay monthly for the second TV.
Multi-room is a charge for the Sky subscription channels, not for the hardware.
Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
Does multi-room cost the same fee as the primary subscription (whatever you pay for all the channels etc) or is it set at a proportion of that fee?
If multi-room is proportional then i think the boys are being a bit cheeky having the full whack for a second set. If multi-room is the full fee x 2 then i think they're quite justified.

It's a proportion of the fee, but that wasn't the original point. The original point was a poster saying it was outrageous that even a reduced fee would be charged.
I don't know of any non-Sky subscription channel that doesn't charge full fee. Indeed it is probable that Sky charges for the right to activate a second card, while a second card can be used in a different set not in the same house, so if subscriptions were piled on, the second (or third) card could be passed on to a third party without anyone knowing.
Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
oh right yes i understand now,i would probably pay a one off ppv but not pay for bn then a ppv aswell, for the record tho i refuse to subscribe to bn as i watched a few shows when it was free to skytv and it was boring there was no atmosphere, you see sky boxing and they have it nailed every show.leforge wrote:I had a near heart ache when I saw my January bill which included Allegedly channel.fasteddie wrote:its £95 for all the kids channels, movie channels and sports channels on virgin tv plus you get the internet and phone too which is free to landlines its not just 100 for tv its tv,internet and phone too :)MachoMan09 wrote:Do some people really pay over a hundred quid a month to watch television? ESPN. I get ESPN throughout my house for just a single subscription payment (£10 per month).gobbles wrote:danfoster wrote:Does multi-room cost the same fee as the primary subscription (whatever you pay for all the channels etc) or is it set at a proportion of that fee?

You did pay for multi-room, enough to recoup their outlay.gobbles wrote:

Multi-room is a charge for the Sky subscription channels, not for the hardware.
It's 100% for the hardware.
You ring up allegedly and tell them you'd like a subscription for 3 bedrooms of your house - then how would you watch it ? you'd need the hardware.
So you would then ring up and then Sky would come and fit them all free of charge would they? no they wouldn't !
It's just like the old Apple vs Android argument. Where people argue who's got the most sales. When the truth is Apple is a hardware manufacturer - and Android is a software platform. It's not an comparison at all.
Your sky subscription covers the whole infrastructure including the satellite costs, the initial hardware (boxes, cards, dishes). A bedroom box costs about £120 plus fitting at circa £100 cost to sky. Based on a typical 24 month agreement lifetime, that figure recoups that outlay. If you cut off after 12 months then they lose out.
Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
I had a mate who works for sky supply and install my second box long before i subscribed to multiroom. It worked basicly as a freeview box until i recently phoned up to extend my non freeview channels onto the second box. Although i already had the box all installed and set up it was still an extra £10 per month for the second card. That therefore surely rules out the hardware argument, my original point was that i pay a small fortune out for sky tv and when i subscribe to certain channels my cost covers both boxes. I just find it a rip off that im expected to pay twice for 2 seperate boxes in the same house when im already paying an extra fee for multiroom in the first place.
Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
And that's where your 2nd box came from.Emmseegee wrote:I had a mate
I don't make stuff up, I ran a bunch of satellite installers for a number of years and my best friend owns a Satellite tv company.
If he slings you a free box he 'acquired' then Sky don't know. It's only when you want to replicate your channels that Sky get to know about it. They usually insist that it's also connected to the phone line too, so they can verify both are in the same household.

"I had a mate who works for sky supply and install my second box long before i subscribed to multi room."
So true, at this point they didn't know and yes my mate is where my second box came from which is why i said he supplied it.
"It worked basicly as a freeview box until i recently phoned up to extend my non freeview channels onto the second box."
At this point they did know because i wanted ALL my channels on my second box.
"Although i already had the box all installed and set up it was still an extra £10 per month for the second card."
Because thats the price of the multi-room service, not the price of the 'hardware'
I never wanted to get into a debate about how the Sky installation business operates so to repeat my point again.......

Re: ch 456 bag Mayweather vs Cotto
I think what Gomez was trying to say is that the £10 multi room charge covers the cost to Sky for the hardware that you require but they present it as a cost to you for the service provided. If you think about it from a Sky point of view there is no (or a negligible) additioanl cost to Sky for piping the TV into your second box. They charge £10 to cover the box you may have picked up elsewhere and the installation that they may not have charged you for.Emmseegee wrote:"I had a mate who works for sky supply and install my second box long before i subscribed to multi room."

On another note, I've decided that BN is not worth the subs (for me) - I don't watch it enough and when I do i miss the end of fights as the recordings keep screwing up - so i cancelled my Paywizard payment and have had it confirmed that my subs are cancelled. So much for the 6 month handcuff period.
