Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
I thought it was slightly embaressing when they said they had a big announcement to make................
The hall fell silent as people thought Mick would say " We have secured a fight with Wladimir........"
But no...............
it was " We are pleased to announce that Tyson will be fighting Martin Rogan.............."
You could almost hear the sighs in the audience, the odd shake of the head and a few grins appearing on peoples faces !!
Whether it was down to Price not agreeing financial terms i don't know, but what i do know is that people would rather see a Fury - Price showdown than a Fury - Rogan showdown.

Sometimes its all about the money, Mayweather vs Pacman is a perfect example, everyone wants the fight but they cant make the money work.

I also didn't like the way they kept referring to Fury being the number 6 fighter in the division again and again. It will be interesting to see the viewing figures for this one when there is the bigger fight with Bellew McIntosh on skysportsQuixall wrote:I thought it was slightly embaressing when they said they had a big announcement to make................

Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
I think Mick knows that there is a 60 - 40 chance that Price beats Fury right now, especially after his last couple of performances and doesn't want to risk his reputation being smashed up by price. That could also apply to Price himself, but it's one the boxing fans want to see happen and i would put my money on price winning.freddydoesdallas wrote:I also didn't like the way they kept referring to Fury being the number 6 fighter in the division again and again. Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
I don't think Bellew McIntosh fight is a bigger fight. Both fights are at a similar level but in the general publics eyes the fury fight is always going to be bigger especially as he's in the best known division and on terrestrial tv on a regular basis. Add to the fact that Bellew lost to Cleverly who even though gave a good performance not many people know who either is. I'm sure the viewing figures will be around the same as the last few Fury fights.freddydoesdallas wrote:I also didn't like the way they kept referring to Fury being the number 6 fighter in the division again and again. As far as the match up is concerned I think it has a potential to be a decent but not great match up and it all depends on Rogans fitness and ring rust. One thing is for sure it will be exciting if not full of quality. I don't even think it's a step back for Fury or that he is running from Price I think Mick realises that there is far better risk reward in a fight with Rogan than a fight with Price. If he was to fight and lose to Price where does he go from there? Fighting and beating the likes of Sexton and Olibimwano? At least with Rogan the chances are he will win and can continue to build up experience, he is afterall a very young heavyweight and still needs to mature as a fighter. I think people forget that he's younger than Price and therefore Price should move on quicker than Fury.
Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
Disagree....as strange as it sounds but Furys stock went up after seeing Chisora have some success. Sure delboy was overweight against Fury but it wouldn't have made any difference if he'd come in at 240 as even then he's about 15 lbs overweight.J-C wrote:But the version he fought was 20lbs heavier and clearly hadn't trained properly. I don't think that victory indicates he's ready for Vitali.Horse wrote:Fury beat Chisora more easily than Vitali or Helenius did.
Fury should be aiming to get a fight with Vitali before he retires. After this Rogan fight he has to get a move on.

Very poor match.
Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
I cant believe fury and henessey have honestly chosen this fight rogan, hasnt boxed since november 2010 he should of fought a top 10 name or at price or michael sprott.
Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
Well I obviously can't prove what would have happened had Chisora been in better condition for the Fury fight as it's all hypothetical. But for me when you watch the performance in the Fury fight and compare it with the Helenius and Vitali fights I find it hard to conclude that Chisora's physical condition had no impact.exittored wrote:Disagree....as strange as it sounds but Furys stock went up after seeing Chisora have some success. I don't rate Tyson Fury but he stops Rogan in about 3. When he climbed into the ring you could be forgiven for thinking he was Tyson's old man he looked so old.

Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
Davey Price must be sitting back having a right laugh at this.
Chicken Fury gave up his titles to avoid fightin Price and instead fights a taxi driver in a nothing fight
Would rather see Price put an end to the Fury hype with a KO, but i guess it will be funnier if Rogan does it

Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
Seems like Martin Rogan is blessed with opportunity in his career! Considering how out of action he's been, he's been handed a mint. If he beats Fury, then effectively he's just beaten the rightful British and Commonwealth Champ in most peoples eyes, which would catapult him once again to the doorstep of euro/world standard and some bigger fights and paydays!
This is a bad move for Fury as if Rogan comes fit to fight like we know him to; Fury could be getting KO'd quite easily, as Fury's weak point seems to be pressure fighters and Rogan by far fills this category more then anyone Fury has faced. Also consider Rogan has nothing to lose, so he'll be like a man possessed, as he knows if he looses this, then he's worthless.

Good fight, but I don't think this version of Rogan beats Fury. The one that beat Skelton had a helluva chance. Now, Rogan just looks old.

Wud rather see him fight Banks in an elimanator for Povetkin. Dont see what he gets from fighting Rogan unless they have realised he aint the world beater they think he is.
Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
Is this a big fight in Ireland?
Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
Just bought my tickets. I like this fight and if Rogan is injury free I think he has a really really good chance of overwhelming and stopping Fury given the frailties Fury has shown in his last couple of performances. However, Rogan does take a lot of punches and I think the most likely scenario is that Rogan has a lot of early success and rocks and possibly puts Fury down before the referee prematurely stops Rogan on his feet in the middle round once Fury has a sustained period of success – and so Mick’s cash cow is protected for a little while longer. I still think Rogan to win inside the distance is worth a tenner of anyone’s money, not sure what the odds would be on that, maybe 8-1? Either way it should be entertaining while it lasts!

Rogan could fight the skeleton of a mechanically deboned chicken and it would be a big fight in Belfast.Horse wrote:Is this a big fight in Ireland?
Rogie is extremely popular with casual fans in Belfast and is quite the cult figure.
I actually think its a much better fight than people are giving it credit for, granted its not the Price-Fury we all want to see but its a fun, interesting and competitive match-up that will do well at the box office and on TV.

pointless match IMO, Fury should be looking to stop Rogan in 6, think this is a step back, should be fighting Price then he can call himself the best in britian.

Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
I agree with you mate.
Price was offered a deal though to be on CH5 wasn't he?
And in the context of Fury's career as a terrestrial television fighter, Rogan is perfect.
I'd venture it will be Audley afterward, if Audley gets past Adams.
The stage may then be set for Fury v Chisora II in September on Channel 5. That could get 4-5 million if promoted right and Fury looks entertaining beating Rogan and Harrison?
Non?
Price meanwhile can batter Sexton, Sprott and then move on to Helenius and go the German route or he can take the American route and start on the Rahman types?

Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
I think this will be Fury's route, with terrestrial tv backing, also these fights to look good in plus his size, name and charisma he could easily be a household name by the end of the year whereas Price will still be a nobody.
I still think Price would win though.
But then that is good management, whoever thought that I would be saying that about Hennessy!!!

Even though he beat a fat Del Boy i think the majority of Brits would put Chisora firmly ahead of Fury right nwo considering his win* against Helenius & admirable performance against Vitali.
And even though he doesnt hold a liscence, its obvious to everyone that Haye is very much not retired. Hes barely even 30! For me, Haye is the best HW right now and woudl be huge favourite against any British HW for a good few years yet.
Re: Tyson Fury v Martin Rogan
The problem I forecast is not with the opponent being able to beat Fury - it's whether fury beats himself.
No, I'm not referring to when he punched himself in the face
It's just that he is so unpredictable with his approach to training. When he comes along fit and ready he is a really big handful, then other times he has looked sloppy, easy to hit and lacks the strength befitting his natural size advantage.
That's the risk with making fights with the like of Rogie. Whilst he's arguably seen his best days and the form line of Fury>Chisora>Sexton>Rogan makes it look like a walk in the park - if Tyson turns up in poor shape then it could be a real banana skin.
At least with a Price fight, you'd know it's going to be the focus of his mind. A fight he has to be in top condition for. Anything less in the opposite corner sees the worst of Fury emerge.
With regards the choice of opponent - obviously the Irish boxing market is a big one for such a small demographic. They love their boxing and so if Fury can tap into that, it would widen his fan base.
It's a cynical but understandable move.
