Rees vs Mezaache

Thanks for those of you that left positive messages guys, Gavin trained like a demon and made the weight comfortably for this fight. He knew that he had to have a commanding performance over there and did just that - he was wild at times but the opponent was very awkward, tough, cagey and experienced. The odds were stacked against us as the weigh-in was in the Mezaache family gym, the venue was literally jam-packed with home supporters and we were being taxied around my the Mezaache family in what was a quite weird set of circumstances! To top it all though there was the most intense heat in the ring and the promoters 'lost' Gav's ring-walk tune!

Jeez, he deserves a pat on the back at least - after all, people keep knocking him but he keeps winning!!!

I must agree with The Lockett Man on this as I was there with Mickey Coveney who went the full 8 with Olympic silver medallist & French lightweight champ Daouda Sow, the heat in the arena was unbelievable, I was soaked after just doing the corner so what it must've been like for the fighters god only knows!! There were also some other very 'strange' things going on with the organisation, like dinner on the first night with our opponent sat on the same table!! In the circumstances I thought it was a very good performance from Rees, who I'm looking forward to seeing out again soon. :-))

Whilst Burns and Mitchell are grabbing all the headlines, Rees is going about his work with Win after win against solid opponents. A british super six would be great but it would only be the WBO title available to them and i think 4 of the 6 are world class (burns, rees, mitchell and Murray).
Which route is best to take is debatable though. The WBA is currently vacant and likely to be picked up by Rios who will move up and vacate again. The WBC has DeMarco as champ - tough customer. Burns has mitchell lined up and Warren won't let Rees near him. Miguel Vasquez looks beatable but dangerous. In the meantime whilst the whole WBA scenario is being sorted out I'd like to see Gav take on either Emilian Marisili for the IBO, Crolla for the British or Steve Forbes (mainly because i've always though their styles would mesh to make a really entertaining contest).

You deserve credit too Gary, not just for this fight either.

The start to your training career has been immense and looks set to keep getting better. You were probably the most honest boxers I ever interviewed, I really couldn't see you staying in the game post-retirement but I (and a bunch of welsh fighters) are glad you did. Keep it up mate

I was really impressed with Rees performance, I thought he did well away from home. Hopefully he gets a good fight up next.

Rees v Murrey would be great to watch.

Gavin's ability and particularly his strength make him a threat to almost anyone out there. Another EBU title defence and a world title shot should follow.
