This couldn't have happened to two nicer guys than Gary and trainer Julian McGowan.
Just goes to show that dedication and determination to boxing does get rewarded.
They will go to Vegas and do Dewsbury proud.
Good luck Team Sykes!!!!

This is an absolute joke. Even if Sykes was 1000 to 1 i still wouldn't even bet on him, This will be the most one sided fight of 2012 and can only end with a stoppage in favour of Broner. If you cant beat Buckland you certainly cant beat Broner.

Sykes isn't ranked by the WBO, how does he get a shot?

April rankings -

CHAMPION: ADRIEN BRONER, USA
1: Vicente Escobedo (NABO), USA
2: Juan Carlos Burgos (Latino), MEX
3: Will Tomlinson, AUST
4: Bryan Vazquez, CR
5: Diego Magdaleno, USA
6: Stephen Smith (Int-Cont), GB
7: Roman Martinez, PR
8: Miguel Beltran Jr, MEX
9: Vitali Tajbert, KAZ
10: Jose Ocampo (Asia-Pacific), PHI
11: Maxwell Awuku, GHA
12: Luis Cruz, PR
13: Emmanuel Tagoe, GHA
14: Monty Meza Clay, USA
15: Kamil Laszczyk (WBO Youth), POL

Good luck to the kid but he's a million miles away from Adrien Broner. Not sure how I feel about this...

Ah yes, I recall; the auspiciously titled Tocker Pudwill, quite a night.

Best of luck to Gary Sykes, when you're given an opportunity you got to grab it.

Mixed feelings on this. Glad such an honest and hard working fella will get a payday and an experience to remember, but he's recently lost the British title, not on any particular winning streak and worst of all doesn't even appear to be rated, and therefore, not eligible.

Good luck though to Sykes, this is a massive mountain to climb and is showing a damn sight more guts than Ricky Burns.

They tentatively offered the fight to Buckland who said Yes. But, then the money was so poor that they turned it down.

God knows how much Sykes is getting.

That's a bit worrying to hear. I suppose it's the opportunity of a lifetime for Sykes and if he can turn in a fair performance, other paydays could come his way.

I am all for fighters taking risks but this is beyond a risk. Gary has not mixed in anywhere near this company. The purse will be good for the lad and fair play to that but a brutal / one sided drubbing could really do more damage than good.

Fighting Burns, Mitchell or Rees would have constituted a massive, massive step up but this is something else.

its the opportunity of a lifetime. hes got nothing to lose, if hes gettin battered his corner can pull him out . didnt seem to do wullie casey much harm when he went in with rigonduex and he got stopped in 1.if i was a broner fan id be very disappointed though, cos on paper its a poor match that will do nothing for his career.
